Diff. Fluid change... Honda rip off... ?
i was planning on gettin' my differential fluid changed, so i called a Honda dealer.. the guy told me that labor is $98 and fluid is $30, so total of $128 + tax. I haven't done any differential fluid change on my car yet.. but i believe that it is not so much harder than changing oil... i don't wanna sound cheap.. personally i think it's a big rip off.. does everyone pay this much to get their diff. fluid changed?... or do most of you guys change ur own differential fluid?.. thx..
i found a member from this board, he's a mechanic, drove 50 miles to have him done my S.
all i brought was ( honda engine oil, oem tranny fluid, oem oil filter ), and he did the rest.
but the whole job includes, -- oil change, tranny fluid change, mobile 1 diff fluid, steering fluid, clutch adjusted, state inspection ( roll ). he only charged me 100, and i left w/ a big smile. so try to find someone in your local club.

Ripoff... and dealers wonder why they get a bad name. $98 for labor? I just did this job myself last Sunday in about 20 minutes and I'm not even a pro. So, what they're telling you is their labor rate is near $300 an hour? I put Mobil 1 in the diff for $6.99 a quart from Autozone, which is better than anything they're going to put in there. One quart will do the job. This job is more like a $50 job. I had a fuel filter replaced by a Mazda dealer for my Miata about 4 months ago and they charged me $20 labor.

I say do it youself. If you have the pump to pump the gear oil in, its even easier than a regular oil change. Just note that the fluid might be thick and will drain longer and hard to pump in. Draining warm fluid might be an option and warming up the new fluid should be considered before pumping it in there. It should be easy to do. xviper has a howto section on this. Good luck.
