Default Diff/launch question

I have been reading alot of people saying to launch at 6000 rpms. I have also been reading alot about exploded diffs. I have a 2000 ap1 and am just wondering how big of a risk would i be taking to launch like this? I dont really have the funds to replace a diff right now so if its risky i guess i will have to wait. When launching how fast should i let the clutch out?

before you do anything, make sure your diff fluid has been changed regularly and change it if it hasn't been done in the last 12-15k miles. Also make sure you put the right fluid in there, this has been a HUGE source of blown diffs, not changing the fluid often enough or changing it with the wrong fluid.

6k rpm is good, the key is to make sure you don't lug the car, as that puts the most load on the diff and it does not like it. After you spin the tires, gradually let the gas out a bit after the car gets moving to allow for more traction, then put it back down for the rest of 1st gear.

if you do it correctly, you shouldn't have any issues. also, 6000rpm is just a starting point. that can be higher or lower depending upon traction conditions. also you should NEVER feather the clutch. ALWAYS let it out as fast as possible. the only feather you do then, is with the gas, in case you're spinning too much.

changing it with the wrong fluid.
What would be considered the "wrong fluid"? Are we talking brake fluid or non-synthetic?

A lot of people here run one of the following:

Amsoil LE607
Mobil One 75w90
Honda 90w GL-5

I am using the Mobil One with no problems yet.

Honda does not make a gear oil for our final drive gear. There is no such thing as a "honda 90w GL5". Especially considering straight 90 weight oil can't be used in very cold temperatures, and the S2000 needs to be able to drive properly in very cold temps.

Alright thanks for the help. Does LE 607 have problems with the cold temps? Also how many quarts do i need for a diff fluid change? I live in GA right now so cold isnt really a problem, but i am considering go to college up north. So it would be good to know if I needed to change it out before college in the fall.

Do not use LE 607 in cold weather. LE 607 is not a cold weather diff oil.

You only need 1 quart.
