Thumbs up differential fluid

My car is right around the 9k mile marker. All I've done is change the oil so far. I'm taking my car to the dealer for an oil change to synthetic this week, and am planning on getting the differential fluid changed at the same time. Is the factory fluid synthetic or dino? What is a good brand and weight of synthetic fluid to purchase? I'd like to show up at the dealer with all my fluid and oil in the trunk, instead of trusting them to use the correct stuff.

Also, what should a Honda dealer typically charge for an oil/diff change?

BTW... please excuse what I'm sure is a repost. All sorts of computer problems today, and using search would take forever.

Factory oil is dino. 90w, I think. Check out the "oil journals". Many of us are using the Mobil 1 75w90 syn with good results. Be careful at the dealer. Many stories about them using the wrong diff fluid!

So did either of you feel a difference in shifting or drive feel after the change?

The only difference you might experience is the noise from differential. It may quiet down after the fluid change, but it won't change the feeling from shifting or driving (you may want to research what the differential's role is). I'm using Mobil 1 75W-90 as it's readily available in town.

There are many choices for diff, tranny fluids. I chose to go with Swepco for my differential. This is the stuff that the Porsche folks use. Although the Amsoil LE607 stuff is great, and people swear by it on this board.

I'm using Almasol LE-607 also. Great results so far.

Has anyone used Mobil 1 and switched to LE-607 and noticed a differnce?

I can get Mobil1 locally for about 6 bucks a quart.
