Default Differential went out today

I was heading to an interview ... was about 2 miles away when I started hearing BANG BANG BANG BANG while I was moving.

My diff had been making sounds for a while now, so I had a good idea of what it was.

Got it towed home (after the interview )

drained the diff oil, it was silvery/ sparkly (so much metal shavings), and a huge chunk popped out as well.

went out, bought a new diff

installed (bout... 4-5 hours)

all in 1 day

also:

I lost my wheel lock key... so while i was out getting my diff, I dropped off the car at a tire shop, and they somehow removed the two back ones for 20$$

just thought ... i'd share

i'm sorry......did i read correctly? did YOU install the diff yourself? or have it done because IF you did that yourself......and you had to dropp off the car to get the locks out.....depending on which kinda locks...i would be surprised you couldnt get those off yourself

all you have to do is get a 16 point socket that barely doesnt fit and bang it on with a hammer.....and Viola!!! its teeth will grab the lock and you can just turn it with a ratchet . usually works for most locks.

Did you consider getting the quaife before going with the stock diff? I suppose it would be harder to get the quaife that quickly, depending on the area you live in.

Yeah, the engine in my Jetta blew up yesterday morning. I rebuilt it on my lunch break. I'm thinking about repainting my car on my lunch break today.

The other day I was driving to work and something just felt wrong, I now know that it was just my clock not set right and me being an hour early for work...however I also fixed it on my lunch break.

the diff exchange is not too hard but just time consuming. it can be done in a couple hours.
