Disabling passenger side airbag
So I'm sitting down with my dealer this evening, and we are about to make the deal, when my wife asks about disabling the passenger side airbag (in case I have to pick up my child or something). The dealer basically says it can't be done, or at least they won't do it. Is there a way to temporarily, or permanently even, disable the passenger airbag? I really don't understand why they dont just have a switch like in the Mercedes SLK or even like Ford pickup trucks...in any event, I am very very unhappy that I didnt get to drive it home tonight, and I suppose if this can't be resolved I won't be driving one home period
Thanks,
Bryan

It can be done. I'm thinking about it for my car but haven't investigated fully yet. Here is an example of a company that does it (disclaimer, I don't know anything about them) I found on the net.

hey...I went out to this site 3 years ago when i first bought my S2000..... i had "sensible solutions" put a switch in... it was located in the passenger footwell and i mostly just left it off....
but check out the website it will have install shops and good imformation.

Since then, I sold that car and bought a silver one... my kids are 8 and 6, and I have opted to ignore the airbag potential problem. My kids are always belted in, and I don't let them pissaround tooo much, especially where they would be leaning too far forward that their head would be anywhere within reach of an exploding airbag....
anyway.... the few kids that did get hurt were mostly not in their seatbelts or misbelted.... so basically i was swayed towards taken a small risk.

I am not an airbag supporter ( I have been in a wreck where airbags would have knocked out the driver and killed everyone in the car! Don't flame me... everyone is entitled to their opinion). But if I had a small child and I wanted the extreme enjoyment of owning an S2000, I would have the airbag removed (or buy one of those kits) so my little one could enjoy the car too.
Don't let an airbag prevent you from owning this INCREDIBLE car!

I put my 4 yrs. old daughter and she enjoy it. I put here on a car seat and moved the seat as far sa I can. I hate those front airbag. Don't stop yourself for getting an S because of this airbag issue. www.airbagoff.com can put a switch.

Bryan, are you getting a new one or the black used one? If the deal is still on try to work with Pat at McConnell.
I'm an S2000 fan and I live in Wetumpka. If you get the car let me know. I sometimes go to the Talladega Grandprix Race Track or Mt. Cheaha for some spirited driving that I think you would enjoy.
