Default DO NOT do this!

was at the gas station to fill up,and i checked the oil at the same time and it was a little low so i open the hood and unscrewed the lid and filled up the oil.
Then a friend of mine pulls up behind me at the gas station,so we stand there talking for awhile.
Then its time to leave and i slamm down the hood, and there it was, a big dent in my hood,i forgot to put the oil lid back on!!!!
I had put the oil lid,top down,on the engine.

Anybody know if it is difficult to fix a dent in aluminium?
Dent wizard maybe?

Ouch. I would assume that aluminum won't be easy to get dents our of, but I don't really know. Good excuse to get a CF hood though! "If you brake it, upgrade it."

ouch! that just hurts to think about it!

I guess sometimes running a little low on oil can be less damage than adding some.

Sorry to hear about your new dent!!

I shouldn't be that hard to get out, and yes, the Dent Doc should be able to do it. Problem is that you've made more metal by stretching it, so merely pounding it back won't do. Hope they can help, for the first time in your life you need shrinkage...lol.

How long were you at the gas station for? I wouldn't have the patience to wait behind you in line while you waited 10 minutes (possibly a lot more if engine and ambient temperature weren't high) for the oil to settle in the sump before an accurate reading could be taken

What's the obsession with checking oil at a gas station anyhow - anyone checked and NOT needed any?

IMO these checks should ideally be done in the garage at home when the engine hasn't been running - that way, you introduce some consistency into the practise.

just my 2 cents,

Well, where's the dent? If it's in a "good" spot, you could consider installing an air intake. That may look cool. I'm sure some are available. I once had one made out of fiberglass for a car I owned. You may start a new fad - maybe Rick will want to have them made? Someone else is bound to do the same thing. It probably can't be functional for intake, but more cool air in the engine compartment can't hurt. Make lemonade!
