I've been starting and driving easy until warm for years.

sides note,
In Japan the Taxi drivers shut down at traffic lights and lug their engines. Wrong?

I let my S warm up in normal temps (50+) for 30 secs or so. Below that I let it idle for a minute or so. The gently drive it until 3 bars are lit.
