Do you lock your car when parked?
I decide based on where I am. I leave my car top down at my office parking lot b/c its right up next to our production area. I leave my top down if I get a great spot close to the door of a restaurant, provided that many people can see it, including me.
I do NOT park my car anywhere I feel remotely unsafe in.
But ultimately, I still lock my doors out of habit, even when the top is down. Like others mentioned, It keeps the honest people honest.

I ALWAYS lock mine. Interesting point about leaving it unlocked to prevent thieves from cutting the top.
You are assuming that the thief will check the door to see if its locked. I dont give them that much credit.
I'd bet they would cut the top or break the window before they try the door... But who knows...
FWIW, my car has NO alarm, not even the factory one. The only thing of value I keep in the car is my CD collection, and that can be replaced. Infact, I suppose as long as Napster is around, it could be replaced cheaply or for free... but you didnt hear that from me
Otherwise, if they want in my car, more power to them. There is nothing to steal, except the car itself. If they get that, I really dont want it back.

I always lock my car, except in my garage. However, when I owned an alfa convert, I wouldn't lock it, for the reason you stated. I realize this doesn't necessarily make sense...
ps, I don't have an alarm system.

Lock & load. Lock the car - it forces the criminals to look like criminals. Load any valuable in the trunk. Best advice is to be selective where you park, the more it's in the view of people, the less likely vandals or car thiefs will bother. Relax; I've driven drop tops all my life.
How would you make a claim if there was no sign of forced entry.
I always set the alarm and the top is up unless I'm in sight and running distance. I "pity the fool" that tries to mess with Melissa while I'm watching. I'll keep him under control while one of my police oficer friends comes by to take care of him.
If something happens when I'm not around, insurance claim city.
