The bore stayed the same but the stroke is longer in the 04+ which provide more displacement and torque. Fairly certain the pistons are the same.

is the block itself any different?

I would imagine the 2.2 block to be slightly taller. There is a reason that headers and exhausts are not interchangable from AP1 to AP2s.

The K20 and K24 blocks are different heights. I would think the F20C and F22C are, too.

If the blocks are the same, the rods and crank are different. The rods would be shorter and the crank bigger in the 2.2L. Pistons may be but I doubt it.

The engine isn't bigger, but its displacement is. So, since what's "bigger" is the empty space inside the cylinders, the engine should(theoretically) be lighter.
And it would require more material to go around a bigger area!

... and the MY05 got that fat key that must've added a little more weight.

Where's that? Or are you talking about the button to prevent the passenger from rolling down the window? I make sure and press that before farting!

Both engines have the same block.

to my knowledge they are the same block. it's the crank and rods that were changed to adjust the stroke.

I've weighed my MY04 3 times. 2700lb with about 2 gallons of gas, no spare or tool insert in trunk (I was trying to get it as light as I could). So with 11 more gallons of gas and everything back in the trunk, I'd figure it'd weigh about 2,800 or so.

The new 17" wheels don't weigh any more than the 16" wheels according to http://www.wheelweights.net . However, the fatter tires probably weigh about 1-2lb more each than the 16" tires.

I've weighed '04 and '03 wheels + stock tires on the same scale, one right after the other. The fronts were about the same weight, but the '04 rears were 5 or 10 pounds heavier each. (Sorry, I don't recall the exact difference.)

Wrong, I'm almost positive all headers for the AP1 will fit on the AP2. The blocks are identical. AFAIK, the rods are just longer. Also, just about every exhaust will work with a little modification. I think they only reason some don't is because of the different rear bumper design.
