i knew what i was getting into whe i bought the car. so it never gets old revving the car up. however, i'll be boosting my motor soon and i'l much more usable torque to use around 3k rpm.

 

IMO The guys who have the <03's are feeling it alot more than us.

With the 04/05's with the clutch dampener installed. One of the reasons you don't feel that "GRAB" when you clutch/take-off is that stupid valve they've installed.

If your new to the S2 it ALWAYS feels like your doing a casual slide into ANY gear. I'm thinking if this valve was removed in the 04/05 one would have a whole new feel to these model years.

This is one mod I've not done... YET

But is first on my list. I can relate to this guys first feel for the car in a big way. So it may not be that low end power your feeling the lack of, it may be the way it's being applied to the drivetrain.

I think its more a perception thing. Yes, there is less power below vtec, but you dont need vtec for any normal driving situation. My wife's base civic has plenty of power to pass and merge on the freeway, and the S, even below vtec, has considerably more power than the Civic.

 

I've had my S2K for nearly a year now, and I'm still very excited about driving it.

Revving for power is no problem for me because the engine (like the car in general) is so very responsive. In other words, it winds up very fast.

The only problem is when I downshift for power in lesser vehicles - and nothing happens

 

I hardly vtec when passing, unless someone doesn't want to let me over. In that case, I downshift then

 

whenever i'm sad, beating on the car and watching the RPMS chase 9 puts a smile on my face.

 

day to day in the 2004 on model is great...you have gearing to help with the somewhat small sized engine, you have plenty of pick up all the time, unless you are in the wrong gear...then you are reminded you have a 4 cyl engine. so i don't have to get on it and do vetc everyday, i used to when the car was new and i was also new to the car, now i just use the gears, which is what you do with a 4 cyl engine anyway.

if i had a larger v8 or 6 cyl then almost any gear would be fine. but then it would not an S2000. its down to what you want..the car does not lack in power or torque for a 2.2 lt engine.

 

When it comes to torque - someone will always have more. Have a 4, someone will have a 4 with mods or V6, have a V6........ someone will have a V8, and on it goes - V10 or V12! But as anyone who has driven 4's knows the S2000 has plenty of torque for that class of motor and where gasoline prices are heading it's a wonderful place to be. On a personal note, on a 100 mile stretch of flat-road in South Dakota with the cruise set at 71 mph, top up, air-conditioning on, the car averaged 32 mpg.
