Post Does a HP LPR server fit in a S2000?

Hi, long time lurker 1st time poster.

I need to transport a HP LPR server from a location in Londons docklands to another facility in Cambridge and was wondering if anyone else had tried to transport a delicate piece of computer equipment in this way and how they did it?

I am concerned whether it will fit in the boot of a S2000 or whether I will have to put in on the spare passenger seat?

I asked a colleague to do it but something bright caught their attention and they did something else instead.

A couple questions:

1) How many U

2) How deep

3) How wide

4) Can you take off the mounting ears or is it a part of the casing

I've assumed its a rack mount, correct me if I'm wrong- I've never worked with that server before

well the height shouldn't be an issue (the NS LPR is a 2 or 3U as I recall), but the width might make it an issue fitting in the trunk since those servers are decetly long. I would just try to fit it in the trunk/boot, if it doesn't fit, try the pass seat.. there's not much room there either though.

edit: Ok I found the specs, it's a 2U. width is 17.6" and depth/length is 28". I can't see that easily fitting in the boot but if you don't have access to your car I'll go measure it.

You're probably going to have to angle it some funky way to get it in there due to the 17.6" width. I'm not sure thats something you want to do either. But if you do try that, hopefully you have something in there cushioning the rough ride

edit: I hate being given general statements about whether something will fit or not. So I went ahead and measured my trunk. With the trunk lining taken out (the piece that covers the spare and access to my coilovers) and the spare out (you can put it in the front seat) the server will fit. I measured a cool 19" that can fit the width and the 28" depth will fit as well. The 2U height wont be a problem. The only thing I can see being a concern is not having much to support the bottom of the server chassis (I have my tool kit taken out)

I've certainly transported various pieces of computer hardware in the passenger seat but not what you're asking about. However, I'm here to tell ya that a cactus fits well:

What type of server is that HP LPR server? A DL360 or something? Can't you measure the server and measure the trunk? Maybe you could take out the spare and try to put some part of it in there so you have more depth... But those servers are quite big, so I assume it will not fit and it will even be not so easy to fit it on the passenger seat!

I suggest that you'd be better off sticking it up your @rse and taking it yourself - much more room in there.
