Default Does this look legit?

So I was browsing eBay and came across an auction for a "Genuine OEM Honda trunk spolier, factory sealed and never used". It is in New Formula Red (which is what color my car is), and the opening bid price is $179 with a Buy It Now of only $199. Shipping is a Flat $14.95. Those prices seem really low compared to the prcies of around $400 I see on other Honda Parts websites.

The seller is "Mag Auto Parts" out of somewhere in VA, and they have a feedback rating of 99.7% with 1962 transactions to date. No neg feedback in the last 12 months.

I am not posting a direct link as I don't want someone to snatch it from me if it is legit, but though I'd get some quick feedback before I decide.

There's a phone number as well so I may call them.

Any comments from the peanut gallery?

Reread the eBay ad again. Heading "HONDA S2000 TRUNK SPOILER IN FORMULA RED", the body "S2000 LIP SPOILER IN FORMULA RED" and the footer "FORMULA RED TRUNK SPOILER."

Other then that, he looks like a dealer selling accessories. This one just might be one he needs to get rid of. But with a 1962 feedback rateing, I personally would buy it. It is under dealer cost at this price.

Yeah I just noticed that misprint about the "chin spoiler". Another reason I will call first. I checked out their eBay store and they are selling other OEM parts at "normal" prices including the same trunk spolier, but that auction is one where you can choose the color.

My guess is that this one was an overstock or a return possibly.

I called them and they sounded as legit as can be. The typo in the listing was an error from them copying and pasting.

Anyhow, I went ahead and grabbed it. I couldn't pass up that price.

Now I just need to find a good deal on a chin spoiler and I'll be set!

FYI: yet another spoiler is on eBay at that price. Red only.

Look up the seller "magautoparts".

Interesting. I can only assume they must have a surplus of the red ones to be selling them at that price. They have other auctions for "any color" and those are at the higher prices.

It's possible they had more than one up on the auction you bid on.

As an example, they have titanium shift knobs for about $110 and there were two listed as available on the auction page.

So the spoiler was delivered to my house today via UPS. As soon as I saw the package on my doorstep I knew something was wrong. The package looked like it had been put through the wringer. On top of that the tape job was undoubtedly NOT from the factory (auction claimed the item was "factory sealed").

Upon opening the box I saw that the spoiler appeared to be wrapped in the factory crate paper, but there was no bubble wrap or packing materials to secure it. The trunk springs were taped to the inside of the box, and were also (partially) wrapped in crate paper.

I unrolled the spoiler and immediately discovered a fairly decent size nick along with some scuff marks right smack in the top-middle of it!

Now, the question is whether this haappened prior to shipping or if the package was damaged by UPS. There were no "damaged in transit" stickers on the box, and from my experience UPS is usually pretty good about that stuff.

I immediately called the dealership who sold it to me, and of course, the person I need to speak to is out of the office. I was assured however, that it will be taken care of.

I asked why the box had been opened when it was supposed to be factory sealed, and I was told that with the spoilers they sometimes open them to verify the contents, and to make sure the trunk springs are properly secured.

At this point I am giving them the benefit of the doubt...

I took a bunch of pics (which I will post soon), and I took pics of the box even while it was sitting on my doorstep because I had a feeling something was going to be amiss.

[sigh]....I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering what I paid for it.
