Does this make any sense?
S2000 CR Weight Savings Summary
Reducing vehicle weight increases vehicle performance and, by design, the S2000 CR weighs less than the more civilized S2000. The following summary describes how the S2000 CR reduces weight while adding some performance components that increase weight.
Eliminated Components, Hardtop Installed (approximately -51 pounds)
Electrically-powered convertible soft top
Sound insulation
Spare tire and jack
Optional Eliminated Components (approximately -42 pounds)
Air conditioning
Audio system
User-Configurable Components (approximately -48 pounds)
Removable aluminum hardtop
Exclusive S2000 CR Components (approximately +42 pounds)
Front and rear spoiler
Rear body brace
Steering box brace
Roll bar cowlings and hardtop mounting covers
Heavier suspension components
Increased rear tire size
Tire repair kit
Why did Honda delete the AC and radio just for a measly 42 lbs when they could have just gave the car 30 more hp?
It's been 100+ degrees for 3 weeks straight here in GA, I don't know ANYONE that would sacrifice AC for 42 lbs.
Dumb move. 99.9% of all CR's will be sold with AC. If I'm wrong then you can start a thread flaming me.

And it's another smart move for Honda to go in the opposite direction of the rest of the world. While most people are enjoying seamless ipod/ iphone integration in their cars, Honda decides that we don't even need radios?

develop functional spoiler = few $$$$
retune engine that is already tuned to the max = much much much more in r&d
sure, they can just slap on a comptech SC for more power but that defeats the 'purpose' of the car --> CLUB RACER
no ac
no sound proof
no spare
no radio
its a track car man
honda engineers have already said that the engine is as maxed out as you can get from the factory. so tacking on an additional 30hp would be impossible. so what can be done when an engine is maxed out?...weight reduction.
the cr isn't supposed to be a mass produced regular s2k replacement. there are those who want it and will use it for track specific purposes. different strokes for different folks.

Honda could have took the turbo off the RDX and slapped it on the S2000. Beefed up the suspension and transmission and threw an R sticker on the back made us all happy.

I guess so. I think that my next sports car will be a Porsche.... or an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. That's a sexy beast!
