But are you saying these Toyota, Honda, and many other automakers are literally stupid enough not knowing anything about the environmental effect of manufacturing and disposing their hybrid cars and still continue to produce hybrid cars believing it'll help with saving the environment?
Absolutely, of course they probably know these things and do it anyway, since it is politically correct Automakers don't save the environment, they make money from selling cars.

As another example, take ethanol from corn. It takes more energy to produce and distil ethanol then you get by burning it as a fuel.

Well I understand the concept of green marketing but I didn't really believe companies ONLY think about making money. Also, I'm not sure if these sources you provided are credible or just bunch of skepticals like anti-gore saying global warming is all false and stuff. If they are simply green marketing hybrid cars and boosting their image of ethical side but actually in fact damaging environment, then there has to be something going on to educate consumers all that. Btw why would government subsidize and encourage consumers to buy hybrids anyways. I probably would believe that hybrid cars aren't helping as great as these automakers are boasting but at least it's more environmentally friendly than gasline ones.

Companies care about PR and the almighty dollar. Period. IF it just so happens that altruistic concerns can be profitable, they'll do it.

As for nickel smelting, you Canadians should look into what that does to your environment. Sudbury and other locations are excellent examples.

As long as there are people trying to save the planet with better emissions, there will be people like me who get 14-15 mpg and throw rich black clouds of soot and flames out of the back of their exhaust because they have an open 3" turbo back.

Hybrids are for sissies

Whether or not hybrids help the environment is pretty irrelevant in my opinion, since one person switching from standard to hybrid is certainly not going to have any effect.

Jebus, how he hell did we go off topic?

For those of you who stayed on-topic, thank you. Turns out it won't be worth buying the hybrid right now. I'm just going to keep saving the way I am now and enjoy my s2k to its fullest. after my lease ends, i'll buy sme beater and drive that around for a while.

No rational person would be deluded into thinking that their actions have some sort of actual impact when in reality they don't (such as when voting in an election, for example). That is my view.

Of course, people very frequently can do things that have an actual, non-negligible, real-world impact. But buying a hybrid car to help the environment is not one of those things.
