Does modifying the S2000 ruin its handling characteristics?

Ummm, no.

It was because the driver wasn't capable of properly handling his car.

The driving school advice is definitely the best, and it is a ton of fun. I will be doing another one with my S2000 as soon as I can.

Im not "spreading this kind of nonsence"

There was a HUGE discussion of it on dtmpower seeing how the camra person was a bmw owner and a lot of people said it was partly the x braces fault. Im not just pulling this out of my ass. They said 3 reasons, the x brace, he tapped the brake on the turn, and he was going to fast. I dont think they would just make it up either...

Camera person was in the passenger seat of an S2000. Watch the video again. No BMW looks like that.

Anyways, there is no way that a cross brace could do that. That person is totally clueless who said that - and you can tell him I said that.

It was a driving error, he was driving too fast, and didn't know how to properly control his vehicle. Period.

The mugen exhaust kind of appeals to me. I've heard and liked the sound, but it's the weight savings that jumps out at me. I'd love to take steps to maintain stock feel and performance of the car while reducing weight. I'd love to rip 100lbs out of the car without sacrificing anything, but I'm not sure if that's possible.

I believe it is quite possible, especially if you consider the removal of the spare tire and tools in the equation. Lightweight exhaust, lighter battery, lighter exhaust manifold, lighter air intake system, rims and tires might get you close to that goal if not easily surpass it.

I could make up the difference by losing a little weight

Is there an easy (i.e. cheap) way to weigh a car? Some place that gives me a number for a couple of bucks or something?

I have had the pleasure of owning a Miata with Koni's and Eibachs. and then from that I went to a completely stock one and drove it for 7 mts. the first thing that I am going to do (this is my fourth Miata) is change out the shocks and springs. I don't need to know what my car handles like at the limit for me to make an educated decision on if I should change the suspension.

The first car cornered flatter, had better transitory responses, less dive and bucking, and even though it rode more harshly, I didn't care. That was quintesential sports car handling to me.
