Let's give some credit to BMW for their new M5 motor... 5 litres, 500 hp, 383 ft/lb. and a 7750rpm redline

Porsche is getting 115.2/liter out of the new GT3 motor. 415hp/3.6 liters, pretty close.

I'm waiting for that guy to come back and school us all on how the RX8 motor isn't 1.3L.
And as impressive as the BMW 5.0: is, it is a v10 so if you think about it, the f20 is still better, math for the F20:
1L=2Cyl=120hp
5L=10cyl=600hp.
I'm still a proponent of the LS7, it makes 500hp, granted from 7.0L, but sits lower and is lighter than the BMW V10 (dunno about less moving parts though since it is a pushrod... don't want to bother doing the math for that).

Yup. I think that makes it the production engine with the highest hp/l currently being produced.

You have to use fuzzy math with when dealing with rotary displacement. It is such a unique engine it is hard to compare to your common reciprocating engine. I was able to become one with this fuzzy math in the .1 second right before jumping the curb and then chopping down a tree drivers side first in a nicely tuned prestine 93' RX-7. It was the best most terrible great thing to happen in my life. I think. There is a moderatly long more odd/funny story to that. Maybe another post in off-topic if anyone wants to know.

Hello. It has been a while since I have posted. I have a question about our hp to liter ratio. I believe I have read on this site before that the S2000 does or did have the highest horsepower to liter ratio of any mass produced N/A car. Is this still true?
Yes. I believe it is also the most powerfull factory N/A 4 cyl. engine in the world.

You fail to realize how the longer crank, more cylinders/pistons, and larger valvetrain load make it exponentially more difficult to sustain such high rpms and horsepower.

Honda definitely had something special when they released the S2K in 99.
It's a great motor and car 7 years later.
