Default Does your car have cancer?

I was just wondering if anyone who lives in the northern USA or Canada has had any problem with rust yet? Up here (Toronto) they use sand and salt on our roads in the winter and it kills our cars. On Some S2000s the chrome tip is all pitted and rusty. I have yet to see body rust though. It will be a sad sight.

About 3 years ago a friend bought 97 Integra that had apparently come from some north eastern state that has continual snow and it was a PITA doing his suspension because all the bolts were rusted.
Two bolts broke in place and one had to be drilled out.
We ended up replacing all the strut and arm bolts and screws.

Since then, I've been skeptical about buying a car from snowy areas. That salt/water junk will get you in the long haul.

Honda's traditionally rust in the wheel wells where there is some type of plastic/rubber lining. The water and salt get stuck between the plastic and the metal and it just sits there and causes it to rust.

SO, has anyone taken this lining off? Is it a pain? Does it affect anything else?

I moved from Edmonton (they use sand, and not salt) to Kingston (salt capital of the world i suspect) and my old 88 RX7 got destroyed.

In edmonton, she was perfect. DD and rust proofed every year. Never any rust, not even under the car.

Move to kingston, even though i kept up with the rust proofing, the door, fenders, rear bumper and ALL the suspension components died. 4 years at school earned me a dual color (blue and rust) 88 RX7.

Now, i live in ottawa. The S lives indoors and does not see snow. EVER. There is a guy here though, that DD his in the winter, an dhis car looks brand new. I wonder what he does to keep i that way?
