I don't want to overstate the problem but there's no doubt I'm dogging in the heat. Any suggestions? I read the radmat thread but couldn't find the right materials at Home Despot. Anyone pull off a poor man's CAI that seems to work? The ductwork at HD was defintiely giving me ideas. Or are S2K'rs vampires and only drive after sundown?

Definitely get something like an AEM CAI... I totally swear by that thing! It's not that expensive either! (Then again I got mine used). Oh and the radmat stuff, it's called Reflectix, you can pick it up at OSH (orchard hardware supply).... but I don't really know if that helped (noticeably). I tried it for a while, but the results weren't totally noticeable and consistent like the AEM CAI. I'm sure other CAIs provide the same effect, but I like the way AEM sounds the best.

And of course, it goes without saying, that you must always always always turn of the A/C if you expect to leave the stoplight without bogging

AEM is the brand (there are several CAI manufacturers for the S2K), a CAI is a Cold Air Intake, achieved by extending the air intake in a manner that it draws air into the engine from in front of the radiator or from the wheelwell area. Apparently alot of our power loss is traceable to the engine sucking in hot air (that is further heated by the radiator). It's a rather simple concept and that's why I was wondering if I could manage a simple *duct-type* mod with plumbing supplies until this heatwave breaks.

Don't all these cold air intakes get pretty loud at VTEC? Is the Mugen intake loud at all? I wouldn't think so. I just can't stand it when the intake drowns out the exhaust note(I have the HKS). Which one other than Mugen will be fairly quiet?

andyp,

We just had a dyno day and surprisingly, all the S2Ks at vtec all sound the same, with the exception of SteveUCI's since he has that loud-ass exhaust .

The CAI people were pretty loud in the low and mid end of the RPM range, but at VTEC, the engine sound pretty much takes over.
