The Dragon is definitely worth it. How did you not use all the grip on those tires? I've done the Dragon on R-compounds and used about 95% of my grip lol.

Sounds like a lot of fun!
What's the speed limit there, and how strict is the law enforcement?
I was thinking of driving there this weekend, and if there's tons of cops w/ speed traps, I might just pass.

Mikey - Yea, I had my R-comps on for about a month straight and drove everywhere with them. I did have quite a bit of fun coming back up the Dragon on sunday in the rain/snow/whatever else was on the road with R-comps though. Not something I would want to do again. Next time maybe I'll drive the Avalanche and trailer the S I also melted a front brake pad and got my exhaust so hot it caught my carpet on fire at the Dragon. Let's just say I had some "technical difficulties" that weekend. It's ok, when I go back this fall I'm going to have a better setup. I'll be running the medium compound Advans instead of medium-hard, which weren't grippy enough for me on the Dragon at 10/10. Also, I'll either be using Porterfields or Ferrodos, not the Hawks I had this spring. My exhaust has also been moved 1/2" further from the floorboard and there's no more carpet to catch on fire anyways.

On luggage:

Jenny and I hit the road in the S as often as we can. A Samsonite Oyster just fits when the spare is removed, leaving enough room for a few toiletries bags in the spare tire well. There is also space on the sides and in the tool well if you remove the foam. I keep extra shoes under the seats, the spare tire tools, flashlight, zip ties, and all that kind of stuff gets zip-tied under the hood.

We went in heavy on our last road trip and still managed to come back with a case of wine...

The Dragon is a great stretch of road... I've been there multiple times a year since 2003 (I think?) and have continued to enjoy it...
If your schedule allows for it, try to make either a Wake the Dragon (in April), or Dragonball Run (in Sept) event. Raul (airgate), and the "Dragon Organizers" put a great event together twice a year.

Like Popeye said, there are many great roads around the Dragon as well

Cherhola's awesome. I liked it just as much as the Dragon. The most important part of my Boston->Los Angeles trip was hitting the dragon.

You'll have to see for yourself about the police crackdown. I think it'll ruin your whole Dragon experience.

And FYI - I drove on stock RE-050's and a fully loaded car because I was moving...all in the middle of summer with AC almost the whole way. Allll good.
