Default Door Maintenance

Hey all, got the door panels off to replace the door speakers in my AP1 and wondering if there is any maintenance I should do before I put everything back together? Lube up window tracks, components, etc? Nothing wrong with the door functions just figured I’d check while they are off. 2000 with 42K on it. No similar maintenance has been done to my knowledge. Thanks!

I would put some strips of Dynamate or some suitable NVH (Noise, vibration, harshness) on the inside skin and perhaps even add some other material. It will greatly improve the sound of the speakers and also deaden the road noise. You will have a nice "thunk" when the door closes.

If i remember correctly, just plain black graphite grease. Applied liberal with my Hand, with rubber gloves. Apllied to the rails and plastic wheels wich guided the windows and to the gear mechnism.
If i am right, it is even mentioned in the FSM to lube these parts.

Will see what kind of grease i use this time, need to be waterproof, plastic friendly, sticky and non-odour.
I once made a mistake. I used Motorcycle chain lube to lube the roof mechanism of my del Sol. This stuff starts to smell nasty when the car sits in the sun.....

Awesome thanks for the replies! I think I will roll with both sound deadening and line what I can while the panels are off.

Done. I removed the door liner. You could see the channnel wich guides the window, one pulley and the uper part of the cable wich moves the window from above.
The grease was in real good conditon after all these years. Still soft. It was white and the feeling between my fingers made me choose Liqui Moly Marine Grease from my stash. It also white, sticky, Waterproff, Plastic friendly.
I simply put the grase into the channel from above, worked it down the channel with a long screwdriver. After this, i moved the window up and down a few times while spraying Teflon / PTFE spray on the cable and pulley.
Done. Reasmble the door liner and clean the window from grease and spray residues. it took me 15 Minutes for one door.
The success was not so great as with my del Sol back then, but still, the window moves a litte bit smoother and the sound of the motor is a little bit reduced.

So, it´s up to everybody do decide if it´s neccesarry. But feel free to take care for your baby on a lazy, rainy sunday.

I spray down the interior door metal and all corners with rust check or some other rust preventative when door panels are off.
