Default Door Texture

I recently looked at a 2004 that was available locally. The driver and passenger doors had very noticeable texture along the bottom inch or so of the outside skin. Is that texture normal? Both doors had the original VIN stickers and did not appear to be resprayed.

It just struck me as odd, and I have not been able to find mention of it anywhere on the forum.

Sounds like you are describing rocker guard , a protective coating that has an orange-peel look and feel to it. Nothing to worry about.

It is normal. I have it on my originally owned 2001 NFR. It’s on the very bottom, underneath the line I drew.

It's not original from the factory like that. If its been on there since car came from dealership, it was probably dealer applied. Maybe something that dealership routinely does so they can upcharge for it already being applied.

Its not a bad thing. Doesn't detract from value for anything other than low mile pristine cars. Since it prevents road chips, perhaps it adds to value if it means less paint imperfections.

That’s interesting. I guess I never looked at anyone else’s. I just know its always been there si I assumed it was on them all. Wish I could find my original sticker, I know it’s somewhere in a box in the basement that I’ve moved multiple times.

There shouldn't be any rocker guard on the door itself, just on the rocker and fenders as seen in the photo above.

I guess I was reading OP as below the door since that’s where mine is from wheel well to wheel well.

Thanks everyone.

It definitely was not a deal breaker. With the exception of scraping along the bottom of the front bumper due to being lowered, it was in fantastic condition. I was going to say it reminded of truck liner; I forgot they can color that stuff.

The only other S2000 I inspected in the past had both doors resprayed. So I was not sure whether smooth doors was the norm or if that was due to prep for respraying.
