Double Clutching
ok i know im gonna get it for this one, but what exactly is this? I was under the impression that it was keeping the clutch in while you shift through more than one gear at a time, but i heard some guys at a shop arguing about it... i know nothing of it so i better ask some pros so i have it straight and not speak up and not sound like an idiot
I could explain it to you but I'm lazy tonight so:

There is no point to double clutching on upshifts, assuming you are not skip shifting (which is not recommended anyway). Even for downshifting, there is no point to it UNLESS you are trying to downshift into 1st "at speed". You need to double shift here to defeat the blocker ring.
It's dating from the good old days, when there were no synchros,or not very efficient synchros, and was mostly used on trucks for downshifting.
You can also shift,up or down, not using the clutch at all,by matching the revs.
IE:third gear,let off gas,pull shifter in neutral,rev to match,pull shifter in second,no clutch.
same thing for upshift;second, pull shifter in neutral, let the revs fall to match, push shifter in third,no clutch.

double clutching = faster way to burn your clutch. so dont try it unless you're BOLD.
as long as you match revs on shifts, should be the same wear and tear on clutch and synchros?
