Hi all. I just joined this forum tonight. I have had my S for a few monthes now. Its a 2001 with 30k miles on it. First of all i just want to say that i too have the same issues as i read in previous threads about the clutch stickin about and inch from the floor, however, and correct me if im wrong, i dont reeeeaaallly have to go all the way to the floor, or that sticky point, because, each gear engages with the clutch only pressed in about an inch. For this reason, i havent really givin it much concern. On the other hand, i do have one concern and a few ?'s regarding any possable traction control. If i burn out in first , the tranny pops outta gear at about 6 grand. I assume this is a safety of some sort, but havent seen it in writing. I do plan on makin a race car out of her, or i wouldnt be doing this, for those asking, lol. I took about 6 runs down the 8th mile track , and had my buddy run a few to see if it was just me, but taken off in this thing seems to be utterly impossable, until about 6k rpms, which of course is where the stock v-tec kicks in, however off the line i will get a good jump and a stall almost every time, like there is a hole in 1st gear or something, never felt it before. i have tried feathering the clutch, and the best time i could get was a 9.8 with a .62 rt. I think she is good for low 8's if i could get the 1st gear/traction control issue taken care of. Unfortunitly , i am having to put my darlin in storage for 6-8 months as i am getting deployed soon, but she will be takin care of when i get back. Any ideas, please let me know, thanks all. and 1 more thing, any spoon sportsters out there? (probably a dumb ?) there better be, lol, thx all later.... s2000_man2

So I hate to say it but if you bought this car to be a drag racer you bought the wrong car. There are other cars out there that will make a much cheaper and faster drag racer out there(SRT-4) for one. The diff on this car can be a real problem, you will go through quite a few. So there is no traction control in the car. Good luck on the deployment. Hope you get back soon.

Traction control?

Moving to S2000 Talk, this isn't exactly a technical question.

my tranny doesn't pop out of 1st at 6k rpm the few times I have done a burn out.

btw, as stated earlier, the S2000 isn't a drag car. keep dragging it and say bye bye to your ring and pinion gears.

Sounds like you brought the wrong car to the track. You should have brought a Mustang or Camaro.

Seriously, it sounds like you have a problem with your tranny. Your tranny shouldn't slip or pop out of gear at any time.

"Sounds like you brought the wrong car to the track. You should have brought a Mustang or Camaro."

I have to agree, should have bought a new Mustang. Especially since they went to all the trouble of redesigning the car with a solid axle. They claim it was to control costs and increase durability for 1/4 mile drivers but have also gone into print with their impression that most Mustang drivers neither know or care what type of setup they are running on (their words, not mine). Way to insult your customer base and keep up with market trends, keep up the good work Ford.

LOL, i must chime in here, against the masses. so many dopes on here will tell you its not a drag car. dude, any car can be drag raced. its just money. all you need is, lets say an 04 diff housing, and a 4.77. its a drag car now. stock, yeah its not meant for it, and if your popping out of gear, its only a matter of time before something gives.
id suggest spend some serious time, looking at the guys who actually have drag raced on this site, and ask for advice from people like sideways. alot of us like straight line, and comparison of cars from a roll, but most on here, are track guys. so dont be depressed by those that hate the 1320. take it easy, PM if any questions. dave

well, thanks for the imput all, however , it of course wasnt what i wanted to hear, but maybe what i needed to hear. I have to agree the the one rebel out there, that the s2000 can be a drag car, maybe not an 8th mile car, but i do believe it will , when i am done with it , have its own staging lane at the quarter mile tracks(well maybe not quite that fast, lol). I only took it to the track this one time to get a base line, and see what bugs had to be worked out. Upon return from the big sand box, i plan to dump my rewards into the S and see what i can do with her. I respect all of your opinions, but as i have no love for mustangs or comaros, im afraid, i will have to proove the majority of you wrong, Yes it will take a lot of money, but im willing to once again, throw it all away , as i hear on a daily basis, to hook up another phat ride. thanks all....s2000_man.

to you for not getting all defensive like so many others. Drag racing bores me to tears, but I understand different strokes etc. No, it's not a drag car, but I bet if you threw enough money at it it could be. Not the cheapest way to have a fast 1/4 mile car, but it's your car and your money. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
