Dream cruise, Detroit
I tend to stay away from the Dream Cruise with any imports. Most people are cool, but there have been a lot of fights and vehicles vandalized by brain dead muscle/classic car owners who don't believe anything other than an old american car should be there. So they start throwing rocks, bottles, and the occasional small caliber round at the imports and compacts (even at some of the domestivs). A better bet is to head over to the other side of town on any given Friday or Saturday night and cruise Gratiot between 9 mile and 13 mile. They have everything over there and everyone gets along. That is one of the few places, especially in the home of the outdated and outclassed big 3, that you will see Harley guys, Sportbikers, Muscle/classic car owners, Import drivers and truckers all getting along and having a good time. Some weekend there will be 20,000 to 30,000 people just cruising and having fun.
It should be called the Woodward Dream Sit.
I've been and It's fun...JUST TOO LONG to be in stop and sit driving. Going and looking at the cars it great though. The amount of cars, types of models, and condition of cars makes it more than worth it.
They televise it and I usually watch the cars from the air conditioned comfort of my house.
On a side note. The Gratiot cruise was last weekend. I live less than 1/2 mile from the start and the cars that were there were nice. To bad it rained and cut it short.

Here's a link to photo's from last year. As you can quickly see there is a LOT of 'foreign' cars. http://www.autoextremist.com/cruise01.html
The reports that I've heard from S2000 owners that have done it already - no problems.

Come on, Detroit is such a nice and friendly city.
The mayor looks like a pimp, the government wastes money, the bus systems sucks, the people move hardly goes anywhere, the water department would rather write off all unpaid bills and start fresh rather then collecting (almost 50 million worth of unpaid bills), the people on the city council are mainly crooks, as are some of the other city employees. They had an electrician hold two city jobs and made more then the mayor did. Let's not forget the roads, well, they are bad everywhere, but Detroit is even worse. If you want to find illegal activity, take your pick of an abandon house and see what is behind door #1.
Ahh, Oakland County. Where the Executive was picked up for DUI but released. Wayne County, where the former regime made the taxes sky high and did book cooking to hide where the money was really being spent on. Actually, the money was really being paid to the people running the county. Some were being paid out of several budgets, all unrelated.
Welcome to Michigan.

lanbrown,
Don't hold back - how do you really feel about it! You forgot to add the Police chief in Royal Oak is trying everything he can to stop the Dream Cruise.
Sadly most of what you say is accurate..... Other than the speciality shops there's nothing I miss after moving from the Clarkston area - I worked in both Pontiac and Royal Oak at various times. Come to Jackson where it's mostly honest, hard working farmers; a gay mayor; lots of unemployment; no traffic tie-ups; the roads are bad - but not like Detroit area which is more like a third world country.

Yea, Michigan can blow sometimes...it's nothing like where I used to live in Texas. But you gotta love living on the lake and getting drunk with your parents friends that crack jokes about politics and work!
The police chief can try to do anything he wants. The businesses love it, and well, the Mayor will listen to them.
Most, what was I wrong on?
At least I didn't bring up the new governor; we do take trash from Canada.
Third-world country, you are too kind. Some of them feel like dirt roads that carriages use to travel in an unpopulated area in a recently discovered territory.
Ahh, the lakes, where people try ice fishing when the ice is too thin and go through. Or you buy a pass from the state run recreation service; they say it works on all the lakes they run, with a few exceptions. Uh huh. Five passes later and five lakes later, they all are the same sticker, just a different color. What a crock that is. Why bother selling them.
Secretary of State, what an experience that is; wait in line tell them your problem and then they give you a number so you can wait some more. Oh, can't have more then one or two people working at a time.
