Default Drive it like you sold it

Yesterday I reached an agreement with a guy...and we will finalize the sell of my (now his) S2000 on Tuesday. Driving home from work, I don't think I have ever been more paranoid or cautious with it. I kept checking my mirrors and looking around to make sure nobody was too close to me etc... Makes me wonder if most people are like this... or if they were in this position if they would go nuts with the car. You know...one last hurrah.

I would like to take it on one more canyon ride. I wouldn't do anything crazy, just enjoy the car. A victory lap of sorts...but I can't bring myself to do it. I drove it home yesterday, put the car cover on it...and I'm not touching it again until I drive it to the bank to meet him on Tuesday. Actually, I take that back. I'll be taking the car cover off to take out the stock red seats and put back the original stock black seats per the new owner's request. Maybe I'll give it a nice goodbye wash in lieu of a canyon blast.

I really don't know what I would do with my s2000. I'd like to think that when that day comes it will just be like ripping off a bandaid and it will be over before I know it. I couldn't handle if it drug out over a few days.

When I sold my 87 ford escort I beat the shit out of it until the new owners came to pick it up.

I bet a lot of people would do that...that's why if I were on the other end, i would want to take delivery of it ASAP.

Not me though...I'm babying it. Then the new owner can drive it as hard or as soft as he wants.

When I was selling my Maxima(my first car and a car we have had in the family for 16 years) I took it for one last nice cruise. Not super fast or anything but just to drive it for one last time. It was pretty sad actually because we have had the car ever since I could remember. It had a lot of sentimental value and I think I would buy it back if I could.

a few times when I agreed to trade my cars in on new ones I swear people were out to get me, cutting me off screeching to stops behind me while on my trip to the dealership to drop off the old vehicle. It is kind of nervous because an unexpected accident can kill a deal. Keep it safe until you drop off the keys.

That's my plan. I'm not driving it until Tuesday morning. I'll take it to work that day and then leave to meet the guy in that area later on. I'll probably leave for work a little early just so there is less traffic around. It's always bitter sweet watching it drive off with the new owner...but it's part of the whole experience I suppose.

When I traded my s10 in for my current tacoma there was a paperwork issue and I could not take the truck home that day. I chose to leave the s10 there until it was taken care of (I had my s2000 to cover the daily duties). I am too paranoid and I know that some asshat would have hit the truck. The dealership was giving me more trade in value than it was worth in the private seller market so I was not willing to risk it. Later on down the road you may regret not taking it out one last time, but if something happens the seller may back out and you may lose money in the end.
So what are you getting for a replacement?

I ended up getting a 2011 WRX...the hatchback. I design and build furniture (www.foureyesfurniture.com if anybody is interested) and I needed something as a daily driver that didn't leave me jockeying cars around constantly. It's not as fun as the S...but it's still pretty fun and it has a lot of utility, especially with the roof racks.

I picked it up last Saturday and on my way to see it I took a long cut and went on a nice driving road. I guess I knew that I wasn't going to have it much longer...so that was kind of my premature "goodbye drive".

I parked our TL until the new owner came to pick it up. I didn't want to risk the chance I messed up the car between the time I got the deposit and he came with the rest of the money. I even filled the tank for him.
