this post scares the shit out of me.. how can you be so nonchalant about YOUR AXELS BREAKING.. or even if it was your differential. how do you drive your s2000? i hope you beat the shit out of your rear end. i got sooooo annoyed at the stupid axel spindel nut or whatever getting loose and making noises and i didn't even have to pay to get that fixed nor was it that big of a deal. just NOT something that should happen on so many new low mile HONDA cars. it seems to me that a lot of people have problems with clutch/tranny/driveshaft/differential/axel at extremely low miles. i bought the s2000 to drive fast and i don't want to be scared into driving it slow all the time. honda needs to do more to make sure that people who are spending 30k plus dollars on a sports car are covered in the event that something goes wrong. or include comprehensive driving lessons on exactly what to do and what not to do in the s2k! i don't want to be screwed by some dealer on something that should be fixed WITHOUT QUESTION if it is not BLATENTLY the drivers fault. how can you blame broken axels on some lowering springs? are they lowering springs for a chevy tahoe or something?! don't tell me eibachs man. i'm a fan of the s2000's low curb weight but christ build stronger components that aren't going to break at 30k miles! who cares if the weight goes up a tad? if i get any of the BS problems with my s2k and no one will fix it i swear.. axels need to not break, for real.
Believe me, I know. I'm not very pleased with the way Honda has handled this. I know how to drive, and I've been easy on my rear end. I do drive fast, but very smooth, and no launching (after the first diff went ). They basically saw I had springs and were like "sorry pal, no mods allowed" even though they advertise their car as "tuner" cars. I remember seeing the civic nation ads where they had all these modded civics lowered, body kits, etc. Hell, even their japanese modulo s2000 has lowering springs.

Btw, I tried to start a thread for everyone to report their problems with the rear end, but everyone just wanted to flame me and call me a "lawyer chasing the ambulance" and telling me I don't know how to drive. We could take the thread to the dealer when we had a problem as a little extra evidence that it wasn't our fault when things broke. We need to have xviper or someone else start this thread for us so people take it more seriously.

I don't think I'd be immune from flaming. With some topics, noone is immune.

If you do, please post this in "Technical".
I was thinking "Tell Honda" because their techs might learn something

The half-shaft assemblies are $411 each. Just buy another one, install it and move on.

Thanks, but that's not the point.

Honda is going to look into my axles as a "good will" case. Anyone know the odds are with this?

thats great news.. it seems like a lot of people have gotten common s2000 problems fixed through goodwill.. so the fact that they are looking into it means the dealer has some understanding that it was not your fault your axels broke. if the dealer is decent you should luck out and get your problem taken care of. the gillman honda dealership i frequent in the houston area is great and they have fixed most all my quirky problems so far (new rear spindle nut, new hardtop strikers, new radio door cover, fixed the auto-down driver power window and even touched up my weather stripping) but none substancial in terms of money. i am going to take my car back soon to try for a free tsb clutch fix cause i can't stand the buzzing anymore. anyway i hope you get your new axels without much trouble.. happy vtec-ing

Glad to hear they have been helping you. The person at Honda hq I spoke with made it sound like the service manager didn't want to fix the broken parts. Hopefully they get the guy to look at it in a reasonable amount of time. When they fixed my clutch buzz they did something screwy to my throwout bearing that made it sound like a diesel truck at idle, so you might just wanna pay to have them replace that. Actually, if I were you, I would call up hardtopguy and get the act pressure plate and comptech flywheel while they are in there. Good luck.
