Driving cross country, suggestions?
Work is sending me to cali. driving the S 3k miles makes me a little nervous, especially so low. Any suggestions from u guys would be great. precautions i should take? Main things im worried about is how low it is and how loud it is. ill probably raise it a bit, but i guess im stuck with loud exhaust. tape front?
I drove 300 miles with loud exhaust and it gave me a headache. I don't know what will 3k will do to a person...lol
but have you thought about flying? with the price of gas nowadays it might be cheaper to take a plane?... (also wont have to put miles on the S)
and if you have to take the Loud s2, its gonna suck (IMO) maybe a silencer will do the trick.
taping the front will be a good idea.

Trailer it.
Or if you have to drive it, try some noise cancelling headphones.
[Noise cancelling headphones cancel out low repetitive noise such as airplane humm or, in this case, tire/wind/exhaust noise. You can still hear people honking and things like that. Is it less safe than driving a stock s2000? Probably. Is it less safe than driving an S2000 with a super loud exhaust and music pumped up? No.]
No solution for uncomfortable seats though.

If you take the S, buy some quality ear plugs (some jurisdictions frown on having your ears covered like California) Apply 3M clear bra or tape the front, leave your headlights on during the day for visibility and enjoy the drive!
i made a 6 hour trip in a civic with a broken exhaust. ended up taking some tissue paper and stuffing it in my ears. most store that sells guns/ammo/gun range will have cheap foam ear plugs. since you're lowered, don't wait till the tank is almost empty to get gas. many roadside gas station lots are pretty beat up from semi trucks. start looking for "nice" gas stations at around 1/4 tank. this allows you time to find a station with smooth lots.
i've found that a small pillow does wonders in helping fight fatigue from uncomfortable seats. shifting around in the seat and finding new/different positions helps keep the blood flowing.

In ear headphones keep noise out and give you music. Highways are no problem for a low car. Stretch your legs on a regular basis. Tape your lights if you are going through desert areas in the day to prevent pitting.
I drove to Iowa and back over Christmas... through whiteout conditions in Utah and the Rockies, and through -20 temperatures in Wyoming. Of course I did the drive in an SUV, so it's different. If you're going during better weather, things should be easier. For the S2k, I'd advise taking some measure to prevent paint problems, getting it serviced before leaving, checking your tire tread and pressure. Some more tips: bring a radar detector, get enough sleep, have plenty of music, and use ear plugs (I like these). It's level even in CA to use ear plugs to avoid hearing loss.
Make sure you keep a close eye on the fuel gauge in some areas. The S2k is different from most cars in that it can't go too far on a single tank. There are spots to be really careful, particularly on I-70 in Utah should you take that route. There is one stretch that is the longest without service in the US... something between 100-200 miles. Fill up before that stretch.

Drive the S ......... Did the Enchantment 2010 drive last May ...... http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=35788 ....... 6900 miles through 10 states (VA to NM and back)over 3 weeks,,,,,, Travel via I-40 / Rt66 for the most part ,,,,,,, Just got to watch out for coyotes in AK, sand storms in NM and Elvis sightings in western TN ..... Of course you can map out other routes (Rt50 etc) if need be. If you have a K&N air filter don't forget to pack the cleaner/re-oiler kit and don't forget to shake out the cabin filter 1/2 way through the drive......
My wife and I enjoyed the trip and we are planning on a return trip west in the S ......
