There are a lot of different driving schools around the country, and quite a few ppl here have gone though one of these courses. (There's even a place in Arizona where you can learn to drive Formula 1 cars.) The consensus is that they are well worth the money if you want to be able to drive the S2K to it's capabilities.

About 15 of us are doing a police driving course in So. CA next week. That should be fun! If you want more info, do a search in Yahoo for schools. (You may have to search using specific words, because "driving schools" will bring up regular driving instruction - not the kind you're looking for.)

I took the Racing Adventures school at Summit Point WV (Jefferson circut). It was $2000 for a two day course. I took the school because they use the FF5 Shelby Cobra replica, and I was interested in buying a Cobra replica. I ended up with a Yellow S200, but that's another story.

I was dissapointed in the school, as the instruction was rather paltry. They just talked to you in class. then let you do laps, then took pictures to sell you. However, it was BIG fun to drive the Cobra. The torque! The torque!

for $175 you can do a track day at Summit Point. You get three classroom session plus four track session with an instructor in your car. Much better deal and much better instruction.

Jeffskio,

Are you located in Troy MI? If so, check out www.speedtrialusa.com. They have great events at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven MI. Its not Skip Barber or Bondurant, but you can learn a lot by taking one of these guys with you in your car. It is also a lot cheaper at $130 per event.

I've always heard that the single best improvement you can make to a car is to improve the driver. Very true.

Thanks for the link Mugen2000. Have you attended one of their schools? I've been wondering how I could do some laps at Grattan or Gingerman. They've got a date of October 20 I'm going to inquire about. By then, I should have my car nicely (and properly) broken-in! Their site talks about required roll bars, but that's for SCCA competition and not for track days isn't it?

Opps, their site says all convertibles have to have SCCA approved roll bars. Bummer. I'll keep looking for another school. But since I already auto-X the Prelude, I can now take the stook to the autocross 'track' without the need to fabricate a roll bar .

The S2k is approved for the 4point roll bar.

There are many Drivers Education events that provide good instruction in your own car at very low cost. These will not yield a competition license, but the men and women that teach are often some of the best drivers around, and do a great job of combining limited classroom and extensive behind the wheel instruction.

I know of quite a few in Texas but I expect that they can be found around the country. Often associated with tracks, Porsche, BMW, and other car clubs, and sometimes an effective for profit venture.

Rather than spend a $1000+ for a name school, look for a DE where for a couple hundred dollars you can get good instruction and have fun in your S2000.
