Default Driving topdown in rain and still dry

So, this weekend, I was cruising with a buddy of mine and all of a sudden it started to pour while we were cruising on the highway at about 75 mph. This is the first time I owned a convertible, but a friend of mine who owned one before told me that if you drive fast enough, even if it is pouring out, you can keep the top down and no rain will get into the cabin. So...I remembered that and decided to give it a try. We left the top down, it was pouring and we were going 75 mph. No rain in the cabin...the wall of air as it passes over the windshield and into the wind deflector area creates an invisible roof...it was pretty cool to experience for the first time. Just wondering if anyone else drives in the rain top down. You do get a lot of funny looks from cars driving by though.

Always. Keep a microfiber towel in the car just in case to wipe down the little bit that gets in and on the roll hoops. Sucks when traffic slows to a crawl though... then its a different story.

you don't even have to be going fast. whenever i got caught top-down in the rain, i've been kept 100% dry once i was moving. it is pretty cool/unexpected!

How fast do you have to be going to stay dry? I find this amazing, and will definitely try it sometime!

I think anything over 40 mph should do it for light rain, heavy downpours, maybe 50 or higher. The whole idea is to get enough air moving to create a wall above your head. Yeah, it's definately cool the first time you see it in action and put your hand above your head and feel the wall of air flowing above you, protecting you from the downpour. When my friend first told me it could be done, I thought he was crazy, but it's true...you can drive in the rain topdown and be dry...I also did the topdown while rolling mod...so with one click of the brake, I can put the top up or down while the car is still moving...so no problem there...it is just a simple mod, you just have to cut one wire and that's it. Of course you don't want to put your top up or down while going anything faster than say 15 mph otherwise, the wind resistance will rip your top off!!!! So you are cruising on the highway, it starts to pour...you can't or don't want to pull over to put the top up...fine drive fast enough and your safe...when you hit traffic, and if you did the mod for top up or down while rolling mod, then you can start to put your top up as you slow down in the middle of traffic.

This WILL NOT work in a tropical storm. Sideways rain can still get you freakin' soaked. Doubly-so when you pull over to put the top up and an 18-wheeler decides to splash a makeshift lake into your cabin.

However, I can open the sunroof and all the windows in the Subaru and stay nice and dry.
