If you want your car to last forever you need to baby it. That means going easy on starts, stops, and turns
I fully agree with xpander...do you hear of porsche drivers doing this ( and i say porsche b/c they are designed for the same purpose).. i mean c'mon you gotta be crazy to do this .. the car was designed to be driven hard on road racing conditions not to run 5 second 1/4 mile times at NIRA or NHRA events.... i never did that to my bone stock Type-R and i ran a 14.30 @ 95.5mph the first and only time i ever took it too the drag strip, when most people run high high 14s ...there are much better and safer ways to launch a RWD car ..i know b/c i had a 9 second RX7 and i never dropped or sidesteped the clutch out of the line to run single digit times ..thats ridiculous
years ago when i had an accord, i used to drop clutches at 4000-5000 rpm frequently( a few times a week). the car's engine and transmission was still in exellent condition at 70k when i sold it. i dont think occasional clutch drop in the moderate rpm range would do much harm, could be a different story if you drop at 75k though. just my 2 cents.

Sorry. Couldn't resist
The impression I get , is that a lot of you guys on the U.S. side of the pond have been used to home grown muscle cars and many are only recently discovering the joy of smaller and lighter machines. This drag race thing and 1/4 mile times, is so entrenched in your motoring culture, that many of you use it as the sole indicator of a car's performance.
The S2000 just isn't that sort of car, it's meant to be driven with scalpel precision around the twisty bits, with the max bhp coming at high revs, the enjoyment and the skill being to keep it in the power band.
It's no slouch from 0-60 but to expect it to compete with straight 6's and V8's is crackers.
Excessive launches, from stationary put undue strain on your clutch, vitually every part of your transmission train including prop shaft and diff, suspension, wheel bearings, and tyres. It's interesting that some people on the board get 5K out of a set of tyres while some get 15K!!
I was talking to a guy the other day who's had three clutch replacements in his car (NOT an S2000) under warranty with no quibbles from the dealer! His dealership are now getting very reticent about any further clutch work as the same guy gets just over 3K miles out of a set of back tyres!! He doesn't race or track the car either. I tried to sound as sympathetic as I could!
Hey, it's your car drive it how you like!!

Xpander4,
I completely agree with your opinion on the abuse high-rpm drops cause to the drivetrain...
Some people don't mind doing this in order to get the "good kill" on the streets - and that is fine.
Personally, I enjoy driving my car spiritedly without the clutch drops - but again, that's just me. I don't mind running the car hard and cornering hard because I do believe in the Honda product...
Ok - I'm rambling this morning...
Anyway, to each their own - as long as you enjoy!!!!
Cheers,
