Why are people so worried about the car getting into VTEC a few times? Don't you have faith in the engineering of our cars? I'll have you know, when I test drove my 02 it had 42 miles on it, and I took it into VTEC at least as many times, including seeing 122mph on the highway before backing off, with the salesman in the passenger seat.
I ended up buying that car, and while I took it pretty easy
for the first 600miles, I have since put a couple hundred miles of hard track driving on it, as well as a couple of long aggressive group drives, and an autocross, and it's been completely rock solid.I really think that whoever buys this car, will not encounter any problems, at least not related to the 4 times I took it into VTEC and 2 trips to near the redline. All were done with fluids well up to temperature.
200kgg, I'm not too bent out of shape that he ran the car into the high revs before the break-in. If I test drove it, no doubt I would do the same. However, if there are 2 cars on the lot to buy, and one has been test driven a bunch while the other hasn't I doubt anyone would want the former...
No, it doesn't have i-VTEC, it has VANOS III

Thanks for your impressions 200. Personally, I take all reviews with a grain of salt and always consider the source. Not saying you were not trying to be unbiased or anything, but it's very hard for anybody to be a completely impartial observer when they have a stake in the final outcome. Even when making a special effort to try to remain equal, it's human nature to want to defend a position. It affects your impressions, feelings and decisions. But it's still helpful to hear the thoughts anyway.
