Any boat owner will tell you that Ethanol is evil. Most boat marinas still sell ethanol free gas at docks but of course you pay $.5 to $1 more a gallon. Most boats have plastic gas tanks and such and since they don't fuel up as much the ethanol separates from the gas and eats everything.

You guys hating on ethanol are misinformed. Its more expensive than gasoline, but can be produced fully, without sending money to the middle east, in OUR country. The reason its more expensive atm is simply because we havent switched over to it fully. If more people made it, the price would go down, lower than our current gas prices.

Also, its a GREAT race fuel(e85 is 105 octane!), and I hope to eventually convert my s2k to e85. Simply converting to e85 will get a stock s2k about 30 more HP with simply tuning for it.

Now, its bad for mileage, but it burns cleaner than gas so its better on the environment. If we converted all of our cars to ethanol, you would see gas guzzler taxes disappear, and the eco nuts would have to find something else to complain about.

Elistan's post as to why E10 is now being offered as an additive is totally correct. The owners' manual on my 01 s2k states that E10 is suitable for my car. In my area (southwest) some stations sell E10 and some sell gas with MTBE. I can tell no difference in performance or fuel efficiency. I think our ECUs adjust for this pretty quick. If you put in E10 for the first time and are having performance loss and/or poor fuel efficiency after 100 miles or so, something else is going on.

you can smell when you pump it. ETHANOL IS THE SUCK.
ethanol smells awesome, especially coming out your tailpipe. Smells like whiskey.

And the power you can make on ethanol is ridiculous. I really don't see how it sucks. The only thing that sucks about it is there is only 1 e85 gas station in my area.

Oh, no, no,no!!!!! Our cars aren't built to burn E85 (95% ethanol). They can only use E10 (10% ethanol). Use of E85 in our cars will ruin the fuel system.

Correct! You need to replace the fuel pumps, and fuel lines at the very least! There are specific kits available for many performance cars to get your car e85 ready.

DO NOT PUT e85 IN YOUR STOCK CAR, OR EVEN USE IT 50/50 LIKE RACE GAS!

Are there kits that make the S2k E85 compatible? I inquired back when gas was $4 and E85 was $2.50, and was told there are no EPA approved kits -- not only for my S2k but for one of my Mercedes as well. Maybe there have been new developments?

I personally would go with a new fuel pump as well, even though its not advocated here.

If congress/the gov't in general would lift its ban on drilling restrictions, we could drill for more oil in OUR country, and send less money over seas, while searching for a better alternative than using our food source/farmers resources for producing fuel for our cars.

You seriously dont believe that the gas guzzler tax is there to protect the environment, do you? All that tax is for is to pad the pockets of politicians and lobbyists.

You typically lose ~5% fuel economy running 10% ethanol IIRC. E85 might be nice, but I don't like E10 at all. Isn't 10% ethanol 93 still just 93 octane?

I didn't know it was there replacing an alleged carcinogen though--I just thought corn had good lobbyists.
