E46 M3 to S2000 - Anyone else?
I read a thread a while back of someone going from an S to an M3. I just bought a MY04 S and am selling my M3. Has anyone else made this switch? One of the main reasons I am changing to the S is the fun factor. I found that to really enjoy the M3, I had to be doing something illegal (excess of 100 mph, etc.). The S is fun at any speed.
I've not gone over the 600 mile mark, so I still waiting to experience VTEC.

I will trade my S2000 and do anything for an E46....you are crazy unless it was an older e36 m3.

I'm going from a '99 M Coupe to an S2000 in the next couple of weeks. I love the M but I've had it for over 5 years. Time for something new and my wife wants a convertible. Of course I insisted that it had to be at least "sporty." Not much of a choice:
*Miata - good car but somewhat slow. Undeserved reputation as a "chic" car
*Boxter - overpriced, would want the S, have you seen how much they charge for some options?!?!
*Z4 - overpriced and questionable reviews. Fans on the bimmer board insist it's a real sports car (or at least GT) but I've read some negatives.
I'll miss the torque and quality paint job (I used to have a '95 Integra GSR so I know what I'm in for) of the M Coupe but the S2000 seemed like it would be a really fun car on the test drive.

I was thinking of doing the opposite. The only car I would trade my S for, that I can afford, would be a used E46. It would have to be a convertible to enhance the fun factor.
There aren't too many cars that would size up to the S when it comes to pure driving pleasure!

i coparred the M3 to my car, made an offer on it and then walked out...it was a dream to own one and maybe someday i will...but...the attitude of the dealer in negociations, the loss of 6,000 a year in depreciation average, and cost of maintenance after the 4 years is up, etc... made me rethink....
i love the car, i owned a bmw for 7 years and loved that, but the cost is just not worth it to me...that is the single most important factor, not so much spending money as comparred to something else.
the S2000 lacks a back seat, about 100 hp, about 30,000 in cost as comparred to the m3cab, a ton more for insurance and maintenance costs, that certain pinash only a bmw can exucde, and a larger trunk...it also is somewhat slower in certain situations on the track....but the fun factor is there with the S and so is the over all reasonableness of the cost of that fun.

I sold my E46 M3 last Novemeber to get my 04 S2000. I am very happy with my S.
I had my M3 for 2 years and that's usually when I get sick of cars. It was a great car and enjoyed it tremendously.
