Default early cars question

Had my 2000 S for 2-3 months now and finally drove it for the 2nd time. Beside taking it home in LA traffic 3 months ago. My question is that it feels so much weaker or lack of torque, should I say, compare to the 06 I drove at the dealer in February. That 06 went like a rocket ship. I don't know anything much about these cars. Are there that much difference between them. I searched and found lots of mud slinging from people here. Maybe I am used to cars with higher tq.

Please I am not asking wich is better or faster, I just want someone that has driven both to shed a light. By the way, there's nothing wrong with the car. Bone stock with 15000 miles. Bought it from my client.

There shouldn't be a lot of difference between the two. The AP2 has a little more torque, but not enough to make it seem radically faster.

Wind that thing out to 9,000 RPM, if it still feels slow you should take it in for a check-up.

The big difference you are probably feeling is the tranny. While AP2s do produce more hp/tq than AP1s, it's not massively dramatic. What is pretty dramatic is the different transmission which gives more mechanical advantage in the first 4 gears...and that is something you can feel. The downside of the tranny on the F22C, is that with an 8k redline you have an extra shift in the sprint from 0 to 60 and down the 1/4 mile, which leaves the 2 cars pretty much even in raw time.

Thanks for the quick reply. so, the later tranny is geared lower? Maybe i haven't driven the 06 in a long time, it felt powerful. I have no later car to compare to beside the drive at the dealer. I am sure its ok, I am just not used to it.

I have been reading up on the notcheness (sp? is there such word?) in the tranny. GM or this new Honda fluid should get rid of it? I am changing all the fluids.

AP1 = (equal to) AP2

You can put more aggressive gears in an S2000 - that will give you more squirt.

If it hasn't been driven in 3months, you might want to change fluids. You need to store it dry, or start it regularly.

The new Honda transmission oil is great...I would definitely select it over the GM Synchromesh oil.

Are you on the same tank of gas? It's possible the previous owner used low octane gas, which would retard the timing when the knock sensors sensed knocking. That would give you a noticeable lag.
