Earthquake! Checked garage first!
Some of you may recall my house got slammed by Hurricane Isabel - we have just now finished the repairs! (4 months!).
So today I am getting an eye exam, and everything starts vibrating, then moving a bit - I thought a 747 was headed for the building and hit the deck!
Turns out central Virginia had a minor earthquake, 4.5 on the Rectum Scale! Epicenter only 20 miles from my house!
So I race home in the Sube, and what do I check first? You got it - The Snake in the garage. Is that totally Sick or what?
Everything is OK, including the mansion. Wheeww!
How do you SoCals get used to this crap. I know a fault line runs along the James River here, but this got everyone riled up.

Hurricanes . . . watch for days as they head your way, nail plywood on windows, fight crowds for essentials, wind builds for hours, rain coming down in sheets, wind increases, blows so hard you'd swear nothing will be left standing, wind slacks off, storm passes, rubble everywhere.
Earthquakes . . . building rattles for a few seconds, ask coworker if he thinks that was an earthquake, confirm it probably was, go back to work, go home, pick up pieces of $2 vase.
Give me a good old earthquake any day.

Earthquakes are fun. They should be greeted with relief, rather than apprehension. When you feel a little earthquake, that's good news because the fault has released some of it's energy that would have otherwise been saved up for a huge one later.
You should only be worried when you DON'T feel any earthquakes for a long time.
