Default eBay ---- Buyer BEWARE!!!!

You know that you can be sent to jail for receiving stolen goods! Thank heavens, it pays to be honest with the Police!!

I have been looking for a set of wheels and tires to replace mine, but still be able to keep the rims to use with DOT racing tires for track days.

Hey, I found a set for the going price of about $800 on eBay, but the tires were virtually new. (That should have rung a bell!!!)

Well, I sent out my money and paid about $150 for shipping as well.

GUESS WHAT????

I get a call today from a Detective in our town, "...did you buy some tires and wheels from...?"

OH F__K ME!!!!! "Yes" "Well........"

Since I was honest with him right up front, I was not trying --- to get away with something --- but, what info do I have and you have to give up the rims and tires.

I paid thru PayPal, and maybe I am covered but I don't know.

Am I now gun shy about using eBay!!!! You better believe it!!! AND YOU SHOULD BE TOO!!!!

Since things are still in litigation, I'd prefer not to say.

did you already receive the goods? if not i don't see how you would be liable. there is no way for you to know if the goods are stolen or not through an ebay auction.

Basically, that's it. If I had told the cop that "...I didn't have them (lying about it)..." and in fact I did have them, then it would have gone down badly!!!

That's why I said --- BE HONEST!!! It's your best defense.

How do they know if the rims are stolen anyway? No serial numbers on them. So you have the rims in your possession?

You should be extra cautious...did you give the seller your phone number? How did the officer get your number? Maybe they are still trying to con you into thinking that they are stolen wheels so that you might be scared to do anything and never see your $$$ back. Did you get the name, badge #, and phone number for the detective that called you? I would ask that you meet him at the police station just to be on the safe side that you're not being con. Too many con crap going on, just gotta think twice about everything!!!

Hope you get your $$$ back if the rims/tires are really stolen.

The story is that this one guy "zinged" his engine, and Honda would not replace it.

So, he found someone who could get him an engine ---- The guy stole a new Honda from the dealer, had a high speed chase upwards of 140mph and got away --- for a little bit. But then the house of cards came crashing down as he tried to sell the rest of the bits and pieces.

So, the moral of the story is --- DON'T OVERREV YOUR ENGINE!!!!
