Default An effective way to use the CM splitter

I was looking for some aero aids but with my car lowered an inch and my driving on the older broken streets of Dallas, most front splitters would not last. I wanted to try an RM and my brother predicted it would last an hour on my car. So I thought a Coastal Metals unit would at least be harder to tear up.

With a good stroke of luck I asked xviper about pics of his silver car with the unit and he not only sent them but made a generous gesture offering me the splitter since he no longer used it. Once I got it and put it on my car I saw why.. mounted it is actually at an angle that looks a little odd (at least on my car) so I did not see the performance or appearance advantage I was seeking. But not one to give up on the unbreakable splitter idea I asked my brother (a unix admin that is really better at aircraft repair) to modify it for me.

We cut a couple of channels in it so that we could bend the curved metal down and used a metal brake to put a 25 degree downward angle on it. It's not perfect, and I had to paint it because the power coat got a little damaged. I also removed the edging although that does show some minor imperfections in the edge. It was mounted on the car and I used body tape to close the gap between it and the bumper. Looks like this:

The end result is pretty amazing. As soon as I got the car to about 70 mph I could tell there is some affect, with the front feeling better planted. Over 100 mph it is a different car, with more precise steering and solid tracking. It really works!

I left it on and have completed a full track event where I think it was helpful and had no negative affect. I plan on a rear wing soon, now convinced aero aids make a much bigger difference than I thought. And to top it off I have scraped it numerous times driving these crappy streets with no damage.

My thanks to xviper.. this post is at his suggestion.

Looks good. Sounds like a lot of work. Glad it seems worth it.

That looks far better than stock. Perhaps you could show CM your mods and they could incorporate it into their design.

I don't like it stock, but that looks terrific - and it's indistructable!

Alright that's it! I'm petitioning to have you moved up to unlimited at TWS for the national runoffs. First JZR comes out with the UUBBBAAUW and now this. It's outrageous!! How are little guys like me supposed to compete with all you engineering types with your wings and other CB tricks??? Just kidding of course. Great job. See ya in a couple of months
