Default Elbow rest on middle console Popping Out

i took my car in to get some warranty work done the other day and i mentioned that my elbow rest was popping out of one of the corners (left rear part). When i say elbow rest, i mean the part where it is covered with leather. I've tried popping it back in but it just pops right back out.

anybody else having this problem? my service advisor told me that it seems to be a common thing because they checked other S's in the service bay and he stated that they all have the same problem.

just wanted to get a consensus.

There's a TSB on this. Mine was fixed under warranty after it started doing this 6 months after I bought it.

TSB# 03-012 FEB 03 Interior - Center Console Lifts Up in the Back

There's a link to it here but it's now for members only. The info above should get your dealer started on it.

The fix is to just trim away some padding on the underside.

I found all I had to do was ensure the screws holding down the glovebox weren't too tight. Once I backed them off a little the problem dissappeared.

Is it easy to pop off the pad? if so, can somebody explain how to go about pulling/popping off that elbow rest pad? i would rather do it at home rather than wasting my time and having the dealer do it.

The entire center console simply pops out. Don't try to just lift up the padded leather portion where your elbow rests, you need to lift out the entire assembly at once. I would suggest popping out the plastic portion by the shifter first and working your way towards the glovebox.

I had the same problem with the armrest portion popping out in the back. I lifted the entire center console out and checked the plastic pins, sure enough one of the pins under the armrest had some bent plastic. I just used a pair of pliers to straighten out the pin and popped it back in. It's been fine ever since.

Hope this helps!

This happened to me and I fixed it myself. Just lift up the side that isn't staying down and put a little piece of a paper towel around the plastic part that pushes in. This will make the hole smaller and stop it from popping out. Takes 30 sec, and works!
