Unhappy The End

Hey all, I parted out my car at 223k miles and I am going to miss you guys. If I could go back and do it again, i'd get a low mileage s2k. The high mile one burned a lot of oil and I just had some bad luck, not the car's fault but still. You all have super awesome cars and I love the comradery. I love how I can drive down the street, see another S and we acknowledge and respect each other.

Some lessons I learned:
  1. high mileage and ap1 = more than usual oil loss unless meticulously maintained by previous owner
  2. If the soft top is replaced and not installed properly, it will leak. People **** up the install of the drainage rails, so make sure to get it done with someone experienced with s2k like Alan in socal.
  3. don't get paint done at s2k "specialty" shops in socal that start with a B.
  4. my caster adjustor seized problem was because the compliance bushing needed to be replaced, used a mugen one worked great.
  5. stiff aftermarket engine mounts are so annoying and the vibrations will drive you nuts
  6. don't get alignments done just anywhere, get them done by the best in your area, no matter the price or even if it's 30-50 miles away. you don't get alignments done often might as well get the best
  7. torque sensor or wiring is the most likely culprit for power steering issues, look there first.
  8. all season tires suck especially in cali. get those summers! I loved the firehawk indy 500 or gforce sport comp 2. they were a good value
  9. spec r springs work with cr shocks and koni yellows. on stock shocks especially ap2 it isn't a good match. get them done at the alignment shop if you do this.
  10. after a while your car will leak any kind of fluid. stay on top of it and replace tail light seals, engine seals and any other seals like behind the bumper cover that can leak water.
  11. don't be cheap
This isn't a goodbye, just a see you later.

Sounds like you got a good amount of miles out of it. Hope to see you back in one in the future.

    1. What's considered as high mileage in you opinion? What is considered as "high" oil loss?

    1. I lucked out and developed a relationship with a local body dude. My bumpers and paint are in his shop now. I also provided my own pre-mixed paint from Finish Master. I went with PPG paint and I hope it will turn out good. My only concern is, and it may be inevitable. Fresh coat of paint vs. a ~20 year old body.
  4. my caster adjustor seized problem was because the compliance bushing needed to be replaced, used a mugen one worked great.
    1. Mugen here too. Honestly, drives just like OEM.
  5. stiff aftermarket engine mounts are so annoying and the vibrations will drive you nuts
    1. I am glad I went with OEM after hearing that
  6. don't get alignments done just anywhere, get them done by the best in your area, no matter the price or even if it's 30-50 miles away. you don't get alignments done often might as well get the best
    1. I had to have my alignment redone from a dealership. To their defense, the car was fine when I drove off. But for some reasons, less than 1,000 miles later @ 4months, my alignment was completely messed up and had to be redone.

The cars are sooooo good. You'll be back. I went 10 years without an S2000 and now have 2. My prior one was a 2001 Turbo. I have come to the conclusion that these cars are best enjoyed bone stock or with minor bolt ons. Really just wheels, cosmetics and an exhaust. The suspension is perfect in factory spec.

Good luck, see you again!

The engine mounts thing made me smile. I have yet to cave to getting aftermarket mounts on any car I have had for that reason. So many I have known by stiffer engine mounts or tq braces and then complain cause their car rattles and vibrates like hell lol. I replaced both of my stock mounts last year when they tore and paid the premium for buying OEM honda mounts and am very happy with that decision!

Sooner than you think! 150k-223k is pretty damn good if i say so myself!

    1. What's considered as high mileage in you opinion? What is considered as "high" oil loss? I consider high mile s2k to be 150k miles and up. I bought mine at 150k but the oil consumption raised overtime, until the point it was burning one quart every 900 miles. Original owner didn't appear to do valve adjustments in good intervals or use the proper oil. High loss is considered more than 1qt every 1000 miles.

I went with PPG paint and I hope it will turn out good. My only concern is, and it may be inevitable. Fresh coat of paint vs. a ~20 year old body. I judge the quality of the paint job by bubbling, even surface, color accuracy. If you can tell it was repainted easily, they didn't do a good job. And it should always have a lifetime warranty. My paint work was all of the above, peeling, and they got clearcoat everywhere. Assholes
  4. my caster adjustor seized problem was because the compliance bushing needed to be replaced, used a mugen one worked great.

  5. stiff aftermarket engine mounts are so annoying and the vibrations will drive you nuts
    1. I am glad I went with OEM after hearing that FOR SURE, the engine is too close to the cabin in our cars and our cars too stiff to have stiff mounts. They designed the stock ones like that for a reason yeeeee
  6. don't get alignments done just anywhere, get them done by the best in your area, no matter the price or even if it's 30-50 miles away. you don't get alignments done often might as well get the best
    1. I had to have my alignment redone from a dealership. To their defense, the car was fine when I drove off. But for some reasons, less than 1,000 miles later @ 4months, my alignment was completely messed up and had to be redone. This is what I am talking about. Alignment is an art, dealerships can't do a good job at this. You need a suspension specialist. Like it's his life blood, that's all he does. No exceptions. I bet even after you got it done the second time a pro will find a problem with what they did and your tires will hate you.

Seriously! This should be a PSA. I had the B4ll4de ones and I wanted to die. It's only good for hardcore race track cars with non-street legal situations. OEM ONLY!!!

I'm curious about what your next automotive plans are! Do you have something else lined up?

I didn't wanna spoil it but the whole point of this thread was the official s2ki goodbye to my old car, some reflections, and a way to deal with my duplicate s2ki account. A nice send off
This will be the user to replace bes2k, and the next chapter has already taken place!! I'll start a new thread called "The Beginning" in the Introductions sub-forum sometime soon and you'll get your answers
