Engine break-in & oil consumption
Many of you advised that oil consumption would tapper off once the engine was broken-in and that's been my experience as well. I thought I'd share this, since it gave me piece of mind knowing other's had been through it.
For oil readings I always checked it cold and I used the same flat parking spot. I monitored the consumption regularly and when it reached one quart low, I added it. A Honda manager in Texas later suggested there was some risk in allowing it to be down a full quart, if one were taking hard right turns. I didn't experience any problems but to be safe it's probably best to top up if your down 1/2 quart (five x's on the dip stick).
During the first 5,100 miles my car was using oil at the rate of one quart every 1,700 miles. I put a quart in at 1,650 miles, at 3,649 (my first oil change) and again at 5,100 miles.
Today I have 7,100 miles on the car and it has only used 1/10th of one quart in the last 2,000 miles of driving.
So, as you can see consumption has been nil since the 5,100 mark.
