Default Engine issues

Im am curious, do you think that the 04 s2k with more displacement and a lower redline will still have the major engine issues that the current S2000 has?

I am currently in the market for a new car, and I am searching for a used NSX. As some of you probably know, they are hard to find, at least to all the specs that you would like.

However, I do love the S2000, equally with the NSX. I am just affraid of engine issues with it, and I have herd, on this forum, that the life expectancy is not very high on these cars, barley even 100k miles.

So basically, do you think the new S2000 will be more reliable? When is the expected release date? And how much higher do you think the MSRP will be? Oh and, handling, I hope they dont soften it up....

Damn, seems like EVERYTHING I am intrested in has reliability issues..350Z, tranny issues, EV08, tranny and clutch issues, and other cars just have random problems. NSX seems to be the only problem free car, and I am hoping the new 04 S2000 will be more reliable.

Thank you much for your help in advance.

Jason

P.S.

FOr some reason, I am expecting to get flamed..Can't come up with a reason, but the old saying goes, "if you dont have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"

There are several '04 discussions going on right now, you may be able to find your information there, at this point it's all speculation but I believe the release date is sometime in October.

Engine reliability? I have not heard about problems like that. I think with the car only being out for a few years long term reliability would be hard to judge. There can't be that many cars out there with 100k mi on them yet.

Performance cars always have some sort of reliability issue. You can't run on the ragged edge forever without consequences.

Yeah I have searched all of the threads for the 04.

ruexp67, you may want to run a search on this, there are major (compleat engine failure) issues with the S2000.

Unfortunatly you are right, but I am not willing to risk a destroyed motor, some owners with very few miles have had the problem. I do not think it is because its a sports car, it is a fault with the engine. I remember seeing a thread with some people saying they don't expect it to last much over 100k, and one guy made it to 70,XXX and it blew. While others blew below the 10k mark. And no it was not their fault.

Truth of the matter is that the engine problems are few and far between. You'll have more people complaining than people who don't have problems, because if you don't have a problem, you don't say anything.

Do a search on xvipers thread "My car started today" - or something to that affect. Tons of people here have never had a single issue.

I think koala has a point. If your car is running great, who wants to hear you come in every day and post "My car is running superb!"? The reason why we don't do that is because we except the car to run nicely and, when it does, it's not big news.

But it is big news if the engine fails, because you really don't expect that to happen. I'm sure that the ratio of people with engine failure to people without engine failure is pretty low.

Also, I have not heard of anybody saying they don't expect their car to last past 100,000 miles unless they beat the crap out of it day in and day out. Sure, you can argue that "The car is built for speed... how can you NOT bring it up to redline at least once or twice a day?" But remember, the more you beat up your car the more likely it is to have issues (unless you are really good at tuning and keeping your cars at optimal specs). It's the same with any car on the market, including the NSX.

I wouldn't call an NSX a "problem free car" necessarily. It's a very very well made car, but if you're looking for a used NSX in the $30k-$35k range (about the same price as a new S2000) there may be issues that you need to take care of.

I think there will be engine problems with just about any car. And in most cases, they're few and far between.

I don't think I'll make it to 100,000 miles, I'm fairly certain that I'll kill myself in a high speed accident long before then.

agreed. i do not believe you should consider anything an "issue" unless it happens to a majority of the owners such as the "grinding issue" for MY01/02 cars. Few motors have blown, but I do not think it warrants the statement such as "S2000's have motor issues"
