I just wanted to know if anyone has suffered engine problems due to improper break-in. The Best Motoring S2000 VCD abused a 500km S2000 by dropping the clutch while bouncing off the rev limiter.

The main reason I ask is because I kinda got carried away and revved all the way to 8000rpm with only 500km (312 miles). My right foot had a mind of its own.

This shouldn't be a big problem; just try to take it easy for the next 300 miles. I haven't heard of any specific problems due to improper break-in; however, I think it's still a good idea to keep it under about 5k rpm for the first 600 miles. I'm sure you know the entire drill, vary your speed, etc.

Ok ok, I admit, I was one of those people hahahahha I didn't know about the break in period, but I knew it existed, but I couldn't help myself.... I'm a vtech junkie, what should I do, where can I get help guys... help me, I need help, I can't go on like this. Its never enough, the first taste, the first offering, I just keep wanting more and more...vtech all the time...

Ok, I did it a couple of times before 600m and everything is fine after almost 10k now. Its probably something you shouldn't do, but I don't think the affects are that severely adverse.

I totally ignored the break-in procedure, and have had 24,000+ trouble free miles so far.

I understand that if you only vtec it a few times befors 600, as opposed to all the time, it's not really a big deal. Just stop it or you'll go blind .... or was that something else you shouldn't do?

My friend's dad (yeah, it a litle 6 degrees of separation) says that you should break in an engine like you plan to run it. He's built many, many motors in his life, and drag-raced them all. Nothing like a 9 sec big block that launches with a 10k clutch drop off the line. That's some drivetrain stress.

But, I'm a wuss, and I broke my car in "correctly," or at least according to the manufacturer's instructions. It is an argument as old as the chicken/egg, Ford/Chevy, Tastes great/less filling. You're fine, just don't grind any gears.

DJHohum,

Kamusta P're!!!

Actually, Honda Phil. just brought in 2 units, a '00 and '01. Lucky me, I got the latter. The rest are from the gray market. I think all-in-all there are only around 10 units in the entire country.

Thing is, the suspension is a "killer" on Philippine roads. I'm changing the suspension by the end of the month with Bilstein coil-overs. Hopes this makes the ride more compliant. At P50 to $1, the car costs P2.5M ($50,000) -- ouch! But that's the way these imports are taxed here as you already know.

Hey DJHohum... I too have an S2K and a true blue Filipino in blood. By the way, it is "Filipino" not "Flip"-ino hehehe. Just wanted to give you a hard time.

Kumusta mga kababayan...

IS200, we better meet up when I go for a vacation to the Phils this Dec.

Later,
