Default Engine tight in VTEC

I'm a newbie, MY05 with only 3000 miles on it. I stored it for the winter (took it out a few times), got an 06 si for daily driving. The 06 si is very free reving in VTEC, and the engine tends to head to redline with no feeling of resistence. I start up my s2k, notice that once above 6000, especially 7000, you get more acceleration but the RPMs don't rev super freely. Is this normal, or is something screwy with my engine. Should the engine just fly to 8k from 6k with no feel of resistance (or dare I, bog)?

1st and 2nd gear goes quickly to redline. It's progressively slower with the rest of the gears. Then 6th is like watching grass grow. Have fun with your S again!

Yeah, obviously the load changes. I seem to be getting some sort of VTEC bog, where it goes quickly to 6000 in first, and then tights up after that and takes long to get from 6k to 8k. Its almost like i'm having a VTEC issue, plus i don't know if i'm getting a surge either. Like i said, car is brand new and wouldn't expect it to do this.

check your oil levels to start. try the map sensor whack maybe. also, is the engine fully warmed up when you do this?

Yeah engine is fully warmed up. I was the guy who posted a while back that my dealer overfilled the crankcase, cause i went for a Pre-Winter oil change (and the change was free). They overfilled it by like a full quart, took me a while to realize that. All the while, i was getting boggy acceleration in VTEC. Now i change it out, and its better but not completely free-revving. You think the Map Whack will help, cause maybe it had adjusted to the oil pressure from the over filled crankcase?

I think that you shouldnt even be having this problem with a brand new S , hows the new si , i owned the previous one with hondata, headers , intake, exhaust , kinda miss it a lil but love the s , my s felt more tourqey though.

The new Si is fantastic, i've actually already put more miles on it than the s2000 already. Love the s2000 alot, its just that I think ever since the dealer overfilled the crank, i've definitely been a bit concerned with its performance (since i drove around for like 500 miles with it overfilled considerably). But as for the performance in VTEC, its not bad. The car gains considerable power in VTEC (as it should) its just that it feels like i spend as much accelerating from 2k to 6200k as i do acceleration from 6200k to 8000k. While the power isn't linear, i did feel like the revs should move with a linear speed, which it seems like they don't. I really wish i could explain this better.

I wonder if, because of the overfill, you got are larger than normal amount of oil vented past the PCV valve into the intake manifold?

Anyway, it's possible you're just imagining things. A dyno is the best way to tell if what you feel is really there.

Typical case of Civicitis, only drive the S for a few months and the problem will go away.

I remember reading they did something to the RSX-S engine to make it smoother and more balanced when they put it into the Si (at the expense of a few hp). This may be what makes the Si "feel" like its revving more freely.
