Ethanol blends
Kind of springboarding from Macdaddies 93 octane topic... Suntan Charlie, our illustrious governor, was behind Florida's mandated use of 10 percent ethanol in all gasoline sold in the state... did it totally under the radar and it all of a sudden just kind of appeared.... everywhere...
Anyone know of any issues associated with the long term use of this crap? I know of folks in the lawn care business are already seeing some issues with their mowers and such... really concerned about the affect this stuff will have on our cars... the blend does reduce your fuel mileage by at least ten percent... higher prices for gas, less mileage... reckon the oil companies win again

My understanding is that it's been that way nationally for quite a while now. The EPA requires that areas with certain levels of pollution use oxygenated gasoline, and the only oxygenate available today is ethanol. Or are you talking about more rural, low pollution areas that don't have to use oxygenated fuel because of federal regulations now have to use it because of state regulations? In any case, my S2000 has been running on E10 for a few years now. Never noticed any issue.
Also, if you're switching from oxygenated fuel with MBTE to oxygenated fuel with ethanol, there's actually only a negligible loss of energy density.
