A healthy car needs a healthy driver.
With that said, methanol will make you go blind (via the metabolite, formic acid) and may kill you. Ethanol (what's found in beer, goldschlager, etc.) will get you drunk, and could potentially kill you, especially over the long run or if you attempt to be a tough guy one night.
Interestingly, ethanol is an antidote for methanol poisoning.
Bottom line: please don't drink from the gas pump, even if you are in Brasil and see vagabonds doing so (where they sell 100% ethanol at gas stations).
Science is too much fun.
Btw, I've heard that gasoline containing ethanol at 10% or higher can be disastrous if put into an old car that has never had such corrosive additives put into it--maybe something like a ruptured thromboembolic plaque phenomenon. In any case, if this is true, it shouldn't be a problem in most S2ks (unless there are some with upwards of 150k already!).

As Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether is fazed out, Ethanol will show up more and more.

yup, our pumps in wisconsin got rid of MTBE a long time ago, and now they all have up to 10% ethanol. which is ok. however, something like E85 (85% ethanol) is NOT ok.

I just thought I'd bump this since I went to the gas station today. And for the very first time, I saw a sign that said the gas contains no more than 10% ethanol. This was at a Chevron station in Virginia. Of course, I went home and did a search to see if the 10% was ok. I'm good to go
The current tank of gas is the first I've had in my car as well since the "no more than 10% ethanol" signs went up around my area as well. I know the owner's manual states that this is fine for our car, but I too wondered if there'd be any decrease in performance either immediately or over time, based on this new blend. The butt-dyno detects no difference in performance thus far.

I think by law a lot of places have to have gas with 10% ethanol.
In Jersey a lot of gas stations are switching to that.

Up to 10% is fine, you may experience a slight drop in MPG though. All MN gas has to have 10% and its not noticable at all.

California has banned MTBE for years. The chief replacement (as an oxygenate and octane enhancer) is ethanol. So you've probably been using it for a while. As far as i know, virtually all cars can use E10 (10% ethanol) with no significant effects other than a degredation in mileage (3% or so). Power would also be reduced, I think.

I just noticed that the cheaper gas stations in our area: Citgo, Wawa, RaceTrack, etc. are all posting Ethanol signs now. Exxon and BP aren't yet.

I hope Bimmers do okay on it......:runs to check owners manual:
