For those who have been hit by photo camera's, was the picture of the front of the car, the back or both? Will not running a front tag help avoid these tickets?

Haven't you ever heard of flash memory? Ever used a USB "thumb drive"? Or a memory stick for a digital camera?
It wouldn't be realtime recording if it used rom flashing as a type of recording.

In 50 years will all be talking about the old days, when tickets didn't just pop out of the dash everytime we were more than 5 over.

Sure it could. It could at least use some form of persistent storage. I you're cell phone can record real-time video onto a mini-sd car then, then so could an ECM. Usually some form of buffering is used, but This has been possible for at least 15 years.

If it records speed then what good is VTEC? If you're in VTEC then you're probably speeding.
But just in case. Where is that black box and what size socket do I need to remove it? (Just part of my weight reduction program)
I <3 VTEC

As for the photo ticket they got me from behind (irony?).

Additionally, I am all for red light cameras. Running red lights is a jerk thing to do.

Absolutely, 99.9% of the time you won't hurt anyone by speeding (within reason, a few mph over the limit, etc) but you can end lives very easily by running red lights.

This, and not speeding tickets is what cops should be enforcing day in and day out. Unfortunately, this is not the case and clearly is far more important than speeding. Where I live, it happens just as often if not more so than speeding.

I was thinking of a very bad movie from the 90s called "Demolition Man" where stallone get tickets, out of the dash for using four letter words. Sandra Bullock was awful it this as well.
