Default Exhaust question

I had a tiny pin-hole in my exhaust tubing, and had it filled in with some kind of creme-colored substance that hardens. I was fine with it and all, but he then put it on my gaskets where the muffler piping comes together at the y-section. My question is, how do I get it off (the hardening agent that is)? I want to change my gasket, but need to get that stuff off. Can I heat it up, and soften it again? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx,
Chris
