Exotic exhaust tone
You can form your own opinion about which exhaust sounds the most exotic:

one of the best exhaust notes I've heard is a friends 944 turbo...3 inch stainless exhaust with a 5 inch tip. Very deep throughty sound, nicer than most v8's. The car just rumbles at idle and screams when you drop the pedal.
I had the middle resonator from the stock exhaust system removed a month or so ago and am very pleased with the sound. I think it makes it sound 'exotic'. To me, it reminds me of my friends NSX. It makes it raspier and quite a bit louder, yet it's not intrusive. If you ever took your airbox lid off and liked that sound; you will like this sound. If you have it removed and you don't like the sound, you won't be out much. If you're going to replace the stock exhaust anyway, this may hold you over til you have the money for an aftermarket one and also give you time to find the one you really want.
A big part of the "exotic" sound comes from the intake. Just listen to any engine with individual intake trumpets, they all have that Ferrari sound that you're after. You can do this to a S2000, but it involves an aftermarket ITB, a new ECU, and possible trouble with insurance company and the police.

i thought they had something to do with the sound.
seems like all the cool exotic sounds have twin snorkels.
i kind of wondr if anyone had tried modifying their intakes.
Flat plane design is a big part of the high pitched whine of an F-car. Also it uses timing belts instead of chains. The new engine in the F430 uses chains and you'll notice it sounds much different than the F355 and 360. Personally I think the F355's engine is the best sounding one Ferrari's ever made.
