Expected brake pad wear at the track
taking the CR out for a lapping day this weekend. I've got 3k miles on the engine and stock pads.
For you all who have done HPDE's or Lapping Days, how well can I expect the OEM pads to hold up. Will they get me through the weekend or should I plan on taking a second set?

Make sure you FLUSH the stock brake fluid. I recommend Motul RBF600 or ATE Superblue.
As far as the stock pads - I never used them on the track, but I would think they would hold up, but will wear away much, much faster.
Some folks in the R&C forum say that the stock pads are fine for beginnings. So it may depend on your skill level. If your an advanced driver and hard on the brakes, you might fade the stock pads quick. However, if your less aggressive on the brakes you might get away with stock pads.
You might get better responses on the R&C forum. Good luck with the track day and have fun.

Might be a little late to get them in, but I'd recommend putting a set of Carbotech AX6 (used to be the Panther Plus.) I think my first two track days were on stock pads, and it too a few days for the brake system to recover from feeling extremely spongy - I think the stock pads simply got too hot on the surface, rather than a boiling issue. I have no idea what sort of pad compound the CR has - Honda hasn't said its any different from the regular S2000 compound, which admittedly is a bit better at track duty than the original AP1 compound.
Years later, when I got good enough to really push the car, and had enough track time at a sparsely attended event, I went through a brand new set of Carbotechs in two days.
It really depends on how hard you push the car. How many previous track days have you done?

However, for your first track day they will be fine. As you get faster and thus have more energy to dump into the braking system, you will find it necessary to switch to higher-temp pad compounds.
Good advice for the track however is "never put your last set of brakes onto the car". Having a spare set available can never hurt.
I've done many track events, mostly at Putnam Park where is where I'm heading.
This is not a HPDE, it's a lapping day event. Open track, but I could get up to 4-5hrs of track time.
My OEM pads are basically new. The event snuck up on me, I was too consumed with getting a class 3 hitch put on the Ridgeline so I can trailer it out there, I know the RE070's will be just fine, just at the last minute hadn't thought about the OEM pads.
All of my track time has been in BMW's. The BMW OEM setup works fine at the track and even with aggressive driving brake fade is minimal and pad wear is good enough to get you through a 2 day weekend.
but this will be my first Honda experience on the track and realized I have not done my research on pad wear.
I'll figure something out. Worse case just take a second set of OEM's in case I run out of material.
It should be quite interesting as I know my laptimes in the 3-Series and my ///M Coupe. I'm anxious to see how the CR laptimes compare.
Only thing that sux is it's gonna be a bit chilly.

Are the CR brakes the same part number (or at least compound) as the standard S2000? If so, I'd go for upgraded pads. I managed to glaze the stock pads quite easily the first time I took the S to a track (probably the same as what happened to Elistan). Like him, it took several hundred miles before the glaze wore off and I got normal braking ability back.
[QUOTE=Elistan,Mar 20 2008, 05:23 AM] In that case, DEFINITELY bring a second set of pads, and check pad wear from time to time.
