Balance that against your usage and driving habits. To me, an engine that sees 9k rpm on a semi-regular basis is pretty tightly wound. I sure don't want to write the service department a check should anything break.

As for the poll, I ponied up for a 7 year warranty when I bought mine. My GSR (Acura==Honda) cost me enough in a few minor repairs in 7 years that I would have come out ahead if I had one.

I'm going to extend mine, especially after knowing about the banjo bolt recall we are not getting in the US. What else don't we know about?

If you're planning on keeping the car for a long time, definitely extend the warranty. It is a Honda, it is reliable and the newer models are relatively problem-free, but anything can go wrong. Just for the electrical alone. Even the convertible top. Extended warranties also increase the value of the car if you decide to sell it, too, but overall I think it is a wise decision to extend.

I bought the 7yr/100,000/0 deduct. Hondacare warranty for $1050. With the cost of any repair these days I thought it to be good odds it would pay for itself. I never bought it for my Accords, but this car is running with much tighter tolerances.

I extended mine. I got a great deal on a 7yr/75K $0 deductible warranty. The only part of the car that I'm eally worried about is the drivetrain components, and the extended warranty covers that.

How much does it cost to replace your diff and maybe a half shaft too..........$2.5-3K+. My cost after all that $250 in deductables.
Purchased 100K/7yr at time of car pickup.........$875. Damn well worth it! I have 63K on the ODO. Another 40K left to run!!!!

Here is a blurb from consumer reports :

"Extended warranties, which provide coverage beyond the time or mileage limitations of an original warranty, are often pitched to new-car buyers at extra cost. Don't be swayed by the relatively modest premium an extended warranty adds to your monthly payment. Find out the lump-sum cost and decide whether you'll likely recoup your investment in warranty-claim work.

Extended warranties usually aren't worth the money, especially if you're buying a reliable model and plan to maintain the car. You may want one, however, in some cases: If you plan to keep the car beyond the original warranty coverage period; the car doesn't have a stellar reliability record; or you want extra peace of mind. We recommend one backed by the manufacturer, not an independent insurance company.

Manufacturers' warranties are usually better, easier to make claims against, and more forthright regarding their limitations. The price can typically be negotiated."

It's nice to have it for the peace of mind. However, with all the Honda's I've owned and getting over 100K miles on them and never (knock one wood) had to take it in for a major service is a good track record in my book. Unfortunately, I have a check engine light on my S2K that needs to be checked out. Most likely a vacuum hose.
